A
Asymptomatic patient: The group of patients who have been infected with, but are unaware of the COVID-19 virus, who do not exhibit symptoms or typical symptoms associated with the disease such as dry cough and fever. In fact, they are not “patients”, the virus is present in their secretions, but cannot settle in their organs. While their test results are positive, they are not considered to be patients, and since they are not considered to be patients, they do not think that they are within the scope of quarantine and they continue their social life. Super-spreaders.
In some guidelines, it is seen that those who are diagnosed with the disease are called “asymptomatic” when the symptoms disappear. However, this term is commonly used for outpatients and others who experience the disease mildly. Some exhibit specific symptoms in this category. The number of asymptomatic patients was stated for the first time in China on 6 May 2020 to be about 1500. 50 percent of positive cases were reported as asymptomatic by the news sources of New York. The number and rate changes per night and from “professor” to “professor”.
So, what will happen to those asymptomatic ones? Some studies claim that it can have neurological effects in the long term. This is also frightening, of course, but undoubtedly, many people still desire that “if I have corona, let me be asymptomatic patient”, “let me not even notice it”, “let the doctors say `you have developed antibodies, you have overcome the disease. Everybody is a potential asymptomatic. Ghost spreader. Sneaky spreader. Hypocritical infected. Super-spreader. Poker face.
Acun Medya: Acun Ilıcalı became popular with Acun Firarda, which was broadcasted in the course of the program called Televole in the 1990s. The greeting “Maraba Televole” (“Hello Televole”) has become one of the most popular phrases that the generation of the time learned with him. Over the years, he realized the economic importance of game shows and turned into a leading entrepreneur buying the channel “TEVE8” from Mehmet Nafiz Gürman’s MNG Holding and changed its name to “TIVI8”. The media group belonging to Acun Ilıcalı is called Acun Medya. He starts the television season with Masterchef, continues with Survivor as soon as the previous one ends, adds fashion and cooking shows to the daytime, and grows enough to buy a football club with the money he’s earned through broadcasting. He is about to break a new record as a result of binding the TV audience to Survivor who was fed up with the debates and due to the lack of TV series during the first months of the pandemic. They broke the world record during a live stream on Instagram with a number exceeding 3 million.
Applauding: It is one of the actions of people done on balconies and at windows to act together, which started as a public initiative to support the healthcare professionals. In fact, it started as a supporting action announced by a group of people, who were the relatives of healthcare professionals in a small circle and spread on social media and supported by thousands in a short time.
Penetration of COVID-19 into our country was announced on March 11, 2020. The action, namely the idea of supporting healthcare professionals by applauding, first took place in the Netherlands and France, and it also came from abroad like the virus news and transferred to Turkey later. On 19 and 20 March 2020, at 9:00 pm, people across the country took their place at windows and balconies and applauded the healthcare professionals. Applause for healthcare professionals from the balconies and windows grew with the support of the Minister of Health, and it turned into a common activity broadcasted live during the prime-time news. The President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife also supported this applause from their balcony in Istanbul, but it was not understood exactly who and what the crowd, gathered in front of the house applauded then. And remember, in those days, it wasn’t clear whether we were better with or without masks. In the pandemic environment, most healthcare professionals watching that noisy applause with open mouths and cheerful faces in unity and solidarity were most probably saying “that’s a fine kettle of fish!”. As a matter of fact, while expressing their gratitude for the applause, some tried to show the reality about what was going to happen to say that “Let’s skip the applause and get our protective equipment”. We wish they weren’t right. There have been deep and touchy losses and unfortunately, the number of those infected, battered, and deceased is increasing day by day.
Therefore, we can also call this action, which occurred at nine o’clock every night at the beginning of the pandemic an “apology applause” of the society, which did not care much about the violence against doctors and healthcare professionals and has understood their importance later. Anyway, the action didn’t last long.
Alcohol: It is the state of at least one hydroxyl group attached to a saturated carbon atom. The word is of French and Arabic origin, meaning East and West co-production. The word used to describe mascaras used for *coloring the eyes*. Over the years, it took the meaning of mey (wine) after distillation. There are few good ones, but a lot of harmful ones. Various types can be consumed through different human cavities, while the oral intake is preferable. During the pandemic, as “alcohol is said to kill the virus”, it has been consumed by those who did not know how to drink it instead of applying it on their hand and caused their death due to intoxication while they were trying to avoid the disease which could be overcome through treatment. This chemical component can make the drinker both pleased and sorrowful. While it would be the most effective weapon against COVID-19, which is justifying our ancestors, Turkey is among the countries consuming the most expensive alcohol in the world. See how Omar Khayyam describes this object – in the form of wine – which is presented as a false beginning to enter places of worship today:
“The caravan of life comes and goes strange
Your gain is being aware of how to live
Cupbearer, leave those who worry about tomorrow
Fill my cup again, before the night is over.”
This is the substance that is thought to kill the coronavirus inside the body when it is drunk, but during the pandemic, it actually killed people. Scientifically, it is a toxic substance that ensures both warmings as it expands the vessels as the first effect when drunk when cold and ensures that greater number of antibodies reach the areas contacting with air such as the nose and throat so that it can be effective in the first contamination, but in chronic use, it breaks the resistance of the body against viruses on the contrary.
Anger towards Germany: The resentment of the government due to the fact that Germany allowed its citizens to travel to all European countries but Turkey when normalization began in June 2020. However, Germany probably feared the possibility of underestimating the number of cases in Turkey rather than giving the real numbers behaving like an “oriental cunning”. We wonder why.
Rise of gold value: This is the cost of living in denial of the facts even though the facts are very well known that “any pandemic will collapse the economy in every country, which, like wars, increases the value of the gold” or “if you owe a lot, your inflation goes up”.
Sixty-five-year-olds: People who are likely to die from COVID-19. The age group for whom a group of younger people says, “I can’t drown myself under a mask for them” and who are deemed sacrificial for the economy.
During the pandemic, people over the age of 65 according to their registry have started to be called “over 65”. They are the age group that is said to be the most affected by COVID-19. According to Goffman, they have been “stigmatized” and marginalized in social relations, and even held up to ridicule by the mediatic people for using Zoom. Those who did not respect the lockdown were subjected to ugly jokes. The society’s attitude towards old age and the distortion of the elderly policy failed in Turkey as in the world.
The most discussed and criticized restrictions for the age of 65 and over in the fight against COVID-19 has always been on the agenda. War-horses, the generation of 68, react to this situation by referring to the past. Others find the reactions of 65-year-olds exaggerated, reminding them of those imprisoned for thought crimes. The discussion is going to run and run. So, who are those 65-year-olds?
1. Definition of people over 65 according to the government: The person or group who should not be included in the statistics due to dying from COVID-19. The group of people most likely to increase the number of COVID-19 deaths. They may lower the reputation of Turkey as they will increase the number of deaths. Therefore, they should be locked down. They are allowed to die from a heart attack or high blood pressure. This is convenient. It is not necessary for them to be buried by special teams and for the corpses to be disinfected. Since the pension will be discontinued and disinfectant expenses will not be in question, it would be very correct to define them as a group who can contribute to the country’s economy while dying.
2. Definition of people over 65 according to the media: The elderly group of people who are very close to death and very likely to die. Therefore, when they go out, water can be poured on them with a bucket. This disobedient group also puts municipalities in a difficult situation. Municipalities have removed the benches on the squares and roadside because of this group. When it is hot during their off days, they get tired as they are old. They can’t go far. Yet it is a group of people who should be allowed out on Sundays from time to time. They can go out provided they do not go too far from home.
3. Definition of people over 65 according to the doctors: Elderly group who are very likely to die from COVID-19 because they have certain chronic diseases. During the pandemic, the healthcare system may collapse, as in Italy. For this reason, it is very good that they are locked at home, the available bed capacity of our hospitals is very good. Because our elderly people are home. We have the place for young patients we will intubate and hospitalize in intensive care. Let them never worry.
We have various descriptions and definitions. But there is a fact that they have been subjected to the typology of the fragility of their lives: “Does 65-years mean the end of life?”
Permission for 65 year-olds: Going out was completely banned for the 65-aged and over on March 21, 2020, as they were in the high-risk group during the pandemic. These people, who were imprisoned in the house for about two months, were “temporarily released” while people under the age of 65 were locked up in the house on 10 May 2020, and they were allowed to go out between 11 am and 3 pm. We can also call these hours “permission hours for people aged 65 and over” to wander in the parks, usually on Sundays, when no need could be met, and the steep rays of the sun were dense. During this time, they could not go far away from their homes. This was strictly prohibited and was a good decision. As they did not have the chance to get on any vehicle that day, they could not return home if they got tired. During those hours, ambulances were available at certain points, as they might have high blood pressure and heart attack due to heat.
Altruism: Anti-selfish attitude. Trying to contribute by looking after the benefit of others without any personal benefit. One of the most important determinants of health, peace, and tranquility in a society is that altruistic people constitute the majority. To some extent it is genetic, most of the time it is acquired through education from childhood… It is inevitable in issues concerning public health as a whole, such as pandemic and epidemic.
America: Being artificially divided into two by the Panama Canal, America is the name of the continent which is used instead of the United States of America (USA) in colloquial language. And the USA is the leading country among those where the social injustice felt shockingly during the Corona times around the world, which was quite visible in its simplest form.
Thus, it is the country-continent affected by the COVID-19 outbreak at the maximum level.
The new world is no longer promising because of the place of the crisis and the distorted health system. The stories of a white mother who shot a video at a market whose shelves were quickly emptied due to the selfish attitude of people and who was crying because she could not even find a package of diapers she needed; and of a black sister who described losing her brother due to the failure of the corona test showed the actual picture of America during the corona times.
Antibody: Proteins, the blue-eyed boy of the immune system, are shown as the genial and muscular protectors of the body in the pictures in the science books and videos in the laboratory lessons. They are Y-shaped proteins secreted by the immune system that bind to certain proteins of disease-causing agents called “antigens” such as bacteria and viruses, deactivating or marking them for attack by other immune cells. The cleavage part of the Y-shaped molecules of antibodies is highly specific. There is a key-lock match between antibodies and their specific antigen, just as between enzymes and their substrates. The tail of the Y-shaped molecule interacts with other cells of the immune system, prompting them to take action against the pathogen. Thanks to these features and their easy production, antibodies are suitable for use in medical diagnosis and treatment. For example, a SARS-CoV-2 virus-specific antibody can be used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Or, through vaccines, the body can be made to produce its own antibodies.
Drive-in Movie Theater: Open-air movie screenings were initiated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality on May 15, 2020. Then, it was held in Edirne, Nevşehir, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Çorum, Alanya, Bursa, Burdur Sakarya, Konya, Kocaeli, Kayseri, Adana, Ankara, Sivas, Trabzon, Sakarya, and Malatya. Hundreds of people who could not go to the cinema due to coronavirus measures made a break with this nostalgic drive-in movie theater.
Conscript send-off ceremonies: Potentially infectious gathering events such as weddings, funeral ceremonies, prayers, and bairams, where coronavirus is transmitted among young people who are called super-spreaders.
Suspended bill: Local municipalities were not allowed to organize donation campaigns. Then, demonstrations to pay invoices collectively were organized. Cooperation demonstrations held by local municipalities made a tremendous impact and, although not covered enough in the media, it helped many people.
Vaccine: Solution given to the body for immunity against diseases. It is the biggest antidote that will herald the end of COVID-19. However, it is unclear whether the anti-vaxxers will have the COVID-19 vaccine.
Vaccine Event: Vaccine development race that claims to affect all existing and future mutants of COVID-19, despite the emergence of fifty-five different types of COVID-19 mutations in May 2020 soon after the onset of the pandemic. Interestingly, some people established a vaccine factory only by looking at the results of the rat experiments.
Overactive immune system: The immune system working overtime. Overreaction of the immune system. Impaired immune response. Hence the starry invitation to auto-immune diseases. A well-functioning immune system is important in order not to catch COVID-19. In the first stage of the disease, we should not be afraid of its reaction, but if the disease starts to progress seriously, it is important to suppress the excessive immunity. Because: This is the revolt of the guard cells against the body. Some kind of janissary revolt…
Aşk-ı Memnu: (Forbidden Love) It is a realist-naturalist novel by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil. It was first serialized in Servet-i Fünun journal between 1899-1900 and then published as a book in 1900. The TV adaptation of Aşk-ı Memnu, directed by Halit Refiğ, was first broadcasted in six episodes on the TRT channel in 1975. This adaptation mainly stuck to the novel. Some of the dialogues in the series, references to the political events in the last period of the Ottoman Empire were not included in the novel. The novel was made into a 3-act play by Tarık Günersel. The libretto written by Tarık Günersel was composed as an opera by Selman Ada. The first performance of Aşk-ı Memnu opera was in Mersin on January 23, 2003. The opera was later staged in Istanbul Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Based on the novel, a new series adaptation made by Kanal D and Ay Yapım began broadcasting on television in 2008. In this series, the story was adapted to Turkey in the 2000s, changes were made in the plot and characteristics of the protagonist, and some new characters that were not included in the novel were added. Thanks to the latest version of Aşk-ı Memnu, broadcasted on Kanal D, some people became aware of the work and realized that “Aşk-ı Memnu novel was published”. During the epidemic period, it was repeatedly watched and the popular sentence “Behlül runs away” was started to be used in everyday speeches.
Spoiler: Bihter will commit suicide. The finale was still broadcasted during primetime.
Fever: An expression for the increase in body temperature above normal. During the pandemic, it stole the leading role of the traffic stops from alcohol.
Thermometer: Our psychological relaxation tool, which we bought hastily by realizing that we do not have it in the first days of the pandemic, and which we always carry with us with our television remote control and mobile phone in the following days. At one point, my temperature did not exceed 35.1. Now I don’t know where the tool is. I think it is stuck behind the armchair.
Shopping malls are opening: The shopping malls, which were closed due to the pandemic, were reopened as the first attempt of the new normal. Political economy was once again brought to the public sphere. Masks, shopping with social-distance without a theme became the symbol of the new norm.
Coins on the shoe rack: For those who cannot leave the house, it is essential to leave the coins on racks for paying the couriers, grocery employees, tips, etc. The amount of them varies per budget, but you can’t go on but for them. Or else you feel guilty.
It is also associated with a bitter feeling: bairam solitude in the time of corona. Video calls, phones, etc. are fine, but the coins were left on the shoe rack. Neighbors’ children did not knock on the door and celebrate our bairam. We could not serve candies. We could not give them pocket money.
Opening of Hagia Sophia to worship and the first collective prayer in the shadow of COVID-19: The meeting on July 24, 2020, where we saw so many people in the same place for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Was the timing of such a religious showdown in the middle of this pandemic that threatened the planet with every human being without regard to religion, language, race, and religion, right? Why now? What will be its reflections on the daily chart? It is not known whether viruses that do not forgive when we take our noses out of the house will show mercy to thousands of people and exempt them. May Allah accept.
B
Donation campaigns: Turkey’s never-ending campaign. An earthquake occurred? Let’s launch a donation campaign. Flood? Donation campaign. Is that a fire? Donation campaign. Where is the government, where is everybody?
Immunity: Resistance that becomes difficult to develop spontaneously and quickly as you become addicted.
When the “virus, bacteria, microbe” arrives, the body looks at its own resources and develops immunity accordingly. The defensive response against pathogenic agents is called immunity. The immune system is responsible for the immune response in humans. There are two types of immunity: natural immunity and acquired immunity. Natural immunity is activated against foreign organisms and toxins entering the body, and the body’s own damaged cells Natural immunity is not specific to the pathogen, so it does not provide long-term immunity. Acquired immunity develops through the production of antibodies specific to the pathogen, but this requires the body to encounter and recognize the pathogen. Therefore, it takes time to acquire this type of immunity, but a long-term immune memory occurs. In this way, we can be immune to certain diseases for life. However, the duration of immunity against rapidly evolving pathogens can be much shorter. Since SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus for humans, it is unclear what the duration of immunity will be. The duration of immunity we develop against other coronaviruses that infect humans is around one to several years. Therefore, the development of artificial immunity methods such as vaccines based on the acquired immune system is extremely important in terms of combating the coronavirus.
Balcony concerts: Mini concerts performed by musicians at the balconies or windows during the pandemic. It first started in Italy, where the number of cases and deaths were very high. In the images posted on social media, sometimes a musician plays the instrument and cheers the people who are bored at home, with the music, and sometimes people at the windows or on the balconies sing the famous song of resistance, Bella Ciao in unison. Then, when it comes to the crunch in Turkey and staying at home was inevitable, we heard similar concert news. Musicians from different cities stood on the thresholds of their houses opening to the outside and played and sang. Musicians from Ankara, famous for their traditional dance music, also joined this activity. Ali Özel, who gave a concert from the balcony of his house in Sincan, was one of them, for example. Burhan Gülalan and Ankaralı Coşkun (Coşkun Direk) were also among the performers. However, the news that these two had argued on social media because of the balcony concerts and that Gülalan was injured with a gun: “Guns triggered in the fight of musicians from Ankara on balcony concert”.
Bairam on the balcony: Celebrations when we strongly felt that sociability cannot be substituted by anything else during the pandemic. Since March 2020, during the two months when we experienced the unofficial obligation to stay at home, we saw two national holidays (April 23, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day and May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day), May 1 Workers’ Day and a religious holiday (Eid al-Fitr). The extent to which a society that has been separated due to socio-political polarization has experienced these days that appeal to different social segments and create emotions in completely different segments as a result of this separation has become more evident in the flow of the times of pandemic that locked people up on their balconies. For example, in the seventy-percent-CHP districts of Ankara, national holidays were celebrated partly with a sympathetic enthusiasm, and partly with a state of hysteria possible due to the effect of the pandemic. In these conditions where people are much more sensitive to sound and especially in the memories of those living in Ankara, painful memories such as October 10 and March 13 were still very alive, fireworks in the neighborhood caused serious unrest. Even people who do not celebrate religious holidays under ordinary conditions found themselves in the collective enthusiasm of the Eid al-Fitr as people aged 65 and over were out on the first day of the bairam and celebrating with each other loudly in a very cute way. The enthusiasm of May 1 had a chip on our shoulders if you are not somewhere like Mamak-Tuzluçayır or Ümraniye-1 Mayıs Mahallesi. Even in districts with secular-republican tendencies, a few shy applauses, the weak Bella Ciao tones coming from afar, the slogans of “Long Live the First of May” which shouted bravely by a person who disappeared, made our hearts sink. May 1 the Workers’ Day, which we celebrated with people like ourselves one day a year with enthusiasm as if the whole world was us or there had been a revolution the day before, has remained as a pleasant moment on the balconies, a longing in our hearts and an experience where we felt a little lonely as a leftist.
I said nothing would happen to me but… HOW SHALL WE DEFINE THIS ARTICLE?
Don’t get close to me: Warning by the Minister of Health Dr. Fahrettin Koca to the officer approaching him in terms of physical distance. We have made this warning internally or out loud in our dialogues throughout the pandemic. As we walked down the street, it has turned into a deep sound that we secretly shouted out to anyone coming across. Only the household and our animal friends have the right to approach.
What would a polite person who cannot say “don’t get close to me” say to the other person?: They say “Let me not get close, I have a cough”, “Someone in our building got corona, don’t come close to me”, “I stay out all day, so I may spread something, see you soon”, “You live with elderly people, stay away from me because I’ll get upset if I spread something”.
The answers that invalidate these efforts are as follows: “So what? My brother is sick, too, I am not afraid”, “Oh, all of us will get it, nothing will happen”, “Never mind, if I will get it, may it be from you”, “My wife has been sick already, will I refrain from you?”, “There is no such virus, this is a conspiracy theory. It’s just the common flu.”
Press conferences: It is the type of conference which makes the press and reporters wait in a meeting hall, while the audience waits in front of the television or radio for a while, and the person who will make a statement to the press poses for cameras near the microphones at the point where the waiting process makes an empty table or a stand start to talk. The press conferences of the President and the Minister of Health were the primary ones that kept many people in front of the screen during the period before the normalization steps of the pandemic. Is it forbidden to go out? Or is it restricted? Or are we on vacation? What will people over the age of 65 and children do? Is intercity travel prohibited? Is the ban canceled? Is the cancellation canceled?
Uncertainty, obscurity, unexpectedness: The concepts that we most complain about, describe the process best, respond to what we feel and why we feel that way.
I am not Chinese! The first experiences of discrimination, stigmatization, marginalization, and making someone the scapegoat that started with the pandemic. In February, a Taiwanese tourist wrote on his bag in led light in Eminönü: “I am not Chinese, I am Taiwanese, I’ll die for you Turkey.”
Not the corona…: We first heard this sentence from a lorry driver. This is how a truck driver was rebelling against the call to stay home: “I am a worker. I’m a lorry driver.” The citizen, who said, “If I don’t work, there is no bread. Not this virus but your orders will kill me.” was arrested. It hurt so bad in our hearts and we witnessed one step further desperately. On April 15, a citizen who was terrified of economic difficulties hung himself at the overpass and left a letter behind: “Dereliction, despair, and hopelessness killed me, not the coronavirus.”
Scientific Committee: A new kind of expert group meeting the citizens who were accustomed to seeing retired soldiers and all-knowing expert journalists on the screens. The poor science is now being taken into consideration by the political power for the first time. Although it gives the impression of a committee in which religious affairs are mentioned and which submits and receives the approval of the president… Some of its members are loved and respected. Thanks to these committee members, who patiently watched TV channels and explained how to wash our hands, how to wear masks, what the social distance is, how the virus infects, and what people at the age of 65 and over should do, our people have come to the conclusion that for the first time that scientists should also be listened.
TTB (Turkish Medical Association) and the Ministry of Health faced off against each other from time to time during the process, but there were also members of the same family on both committees. In the time of corona, we will get along as a society just as they get along at home.
Was it published in a scientific journal? A question frequently used by scientists on TV shows while discussing COVID-19. Scientific journals have been brought to the attention of the public at this extent for the first time, their importance has been understood. For example, we heard that it is an important thing to have an article published in the Lancet. More importantly, we became aware of the existence of a type called the scientific journal. COVID-19 portals in our country are as follows: https://covid19.tubitak.gov.tr/bilimsel-kaynaklar
https://marmara.libguides.com/c.php?g=678819&p=4837573
Resignation of Bill Gates: Bill Gates, founder and board member of Microsoft, resigned. In the press release, it was stated that Bill Gates wanted to devote more time to philanthropic priorities, including global health, development, education, and climate change. The resignation, which took place at the peak time of the pandemic, also fed the appetite of conspiracy theorists. Even the question of whether he produced coronavirus was asked.
Primary health care service: According to the definition of the Ministry of Health, “Primary health care service is the provision of effective and widespread health care services at low cost, where health promotion, preventive health care services, and diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation services are provided together, and individuals can easily access the service.” See https://hsgm.saglik.gov.tr/tr/ailehekimligi/birinci-basamak-sa%C4%9Fl%C4%B1k-hizmetleri.html
It can also be called family medicine practice as we know it. Regarding this group of physicians who first encountered patients in the COVID-19 process, the family medicine branch of TTB made suggestions with the guide it prepared so that the employees are not alone in the field. This includes articles such as supplying sufficient quality and number of personal protective equipment, testing healthcare professionals, informing the Ministry of Health about patients through a system to be established, ensuring adequate communication between healthcare managers and employees.
For details, see https://www.ttb.org.tr/kollar/covid19/yazdir.php?Tablo=tbl_haber&Guid=cc04f5da-7bd8-11ea-a12d-7aee3f6e69c5
Unity and solidarity: Providing emotional integrity as a country. The desirous slogan of the new micro-nationalist discourse! The lash laughed at in the face of the enormousness of the cosmos. They refer to this word whenever they are in trouble. But they are unaware of these two words. They could not learn.
We meet each other’s needs: The “national solidarity” donation campaign launched by President Erdogan with the slogan “We are enough for us Turkey” by granting his seven-month salary on April 1, 2020. MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli participated in the campaign by granting him a five-month salary. As the donation account numbers were sent to the mobile phones as IBAN via text message for the campaign call, it caused jokes among the citizens that “the government declared its IBAN while we were waiting for help”.
When used during the conversation, the wish or order sometimes gives rise to questions such as “What are these own resources? Where are the taxes? Will we put a self-sacrificing tree here? But we cut it when it doesn’t work.” An implicit national unity discourse or analogy. It can also be said that it obstructs the question of why the safe has evaporated.
It is a persistent campaign. It reminded itself every day with an SMS sent to my phone. It has become one of the most discussed topics. It was even said that civil servants were forced to donate. The campaign has not yet been finalized, but it has been announced that a lot of money has been raised so far. However, how these donations are evaluated is a complete mystery.
“Let This Be the Last”: The famous Turkish grandmother/ grandfather quote expressing the desire not to experience new negativity after the last of the negativities experienced with sequential timing. This phrase, which is used to be heard after all kinds of deaths, disasters such as earthquakes, personal or social negative experiences, have been frequently pronounced during this period, although it is not specific to the corona pandemic when there is also a viral disaster in a year that starts badly with fires, earthquakes.
Infection: A term derived from the late 1970s, meaning “infectious disease”. It is frequently used by infectious disease specialists and microbiologists. We asked each other a lot back in the days, “Is the infection infectious or non-infectious? The result was obvious. Infection was always infectious; hence its name is “infection”.
Contaminated: Infected. Things and people carrying corona need to wash in the kitchen sink.
Dishwasher: It is our beloved domestic appliance that will start to speak if the quarantine continues for a little longer. It will almost cry out saying “Enough! You have eyes bigger than your belly!” when we open the cover one morning. The dishwasher, which gets full and empty 24/7 and works without a tiny break due to the dishes piled up on the counter or in the sink for the next time while it is working, has already taken its place among the stars of the quarantine process.
When I think of the dishwasher as a “machine of the infected”, I feel awkward.
Healthcare professionals are not welcomed here: The first official to complain about the healthcare professionals was the Governor of Zonguldak: His words at the press conference held on April 17 drew a reaction. The statement of the Governor, who later apologized, was as follows: “Unfortunately, our healthcare professionals could not protect themselves despite all kinds of precautions. We warned all our friends. This was the incident that padded our bill. If there were no burdens that our healthcare professionals have placed on our shoulders, perhaps we would be talking about recovery today.” However, a few days ago, physicians were removed from a hotel even though they had paid the hotel fee: Zeytinburnu Novo Hotel removed the doctors who were staying at the hotel to protect their families. With the statement made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhat Güler, who is working in the Department of Child Neurology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, on his social media account, the public became aware of the incident and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu took over the situation and reserved rooms for doctors. In the meantime, one after another, we heard the news of those who do not want their tenants and neighbors who are healthcare professionals. So? They exist to save lives. Let them do their job. Let them not shelter, sleep, make us sick!
C
Live friend: The equivalent of the idea of a friend, which means spouse, comrade, fellow, according to the current Turkish Language Authority (TDK) dictionary. It is the word heard from a friend who was infected with the COVID-19 virus, had to stay in quarantine in a city different from the city where his family lives, and survived the disease: “I missed seeing a live friend so much…”
According to Ethel Watts Mumford, it is the reason for both reproaching and thanking God, because God gave the family but thankfully, we choose the friends. At the same time, a friend is a painful obligation. John Steinbeck, for example, cannot write George without Lennie. The longing for a live friend is a form of longing that occurs as a result of being able to come together with your friend only through “video talk” as a result of compulsory distance, disease, war, pandemic, in short, obligations. Because a live friend is not just image and speech.
Mosque without congregation: The situation caused by the failure to perform prayers in the mosques within the scope of coronavirus measures.
All mosques were devoid of congregations, except for Friday prayers.
Surgical Mask: A mask worn by healthcare professionals during patient care and surgery to prevent bacteria that can be transmitted through liquid droplets in the mouth and nose.
It has become one of the things we need most in the times of corona. Unfortunately, I never had a surgical mask, I washed and used the masks sent to my parents by the government, and sometimes I put on the cheesecloth.
Clexan: Its original is Enoxaparin sodium. During the corona pandemic, it has become almost impossible to find it. Because the Ministry of Health has pulled it from the market. The underlying reason for the incident was something like this: Over time, physicians found that COVID-19 causes serious damage to the vessel walls, and those small vessels filled with clots due to this damage. Clexan is an anticoagulant applied under the skin in the abdominal wall, its effect lasting for a day and is life-saving in risky corona patients. Physicians’ experience over time revealed that patients should use this medicine for one month during the recovery period.
COVID-19: The New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is a virus that was first identified on January 13, 2020, as a result of research conducted in a group of patients who developed respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) in Wuhan, China in late December. The outbreak was initially detected in those in the seafood and animal market in this region. Later, it transmitted from person to person and spread to other cities in Hubei province, especially Wuhan, and other provinces of the People’s Republic of China and other countries (Source: Ministry of Health) Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause disease among humans and can be detected in some animal species (cat, camel, bat). Coronaviruses circulating among animals can change over time and gain the ability to infect humans, and thus human cases begin to appear. However, these viruses pose a threat to humans after they gain the ability to be transmitted from person to person. 2019-nCoV is a virus that appeared in visitors of the live animal market in Wuhan and gained the ability to transmit from person to person. It’s like the name of Elon Musk’s new kid. Word to symbolize an era. Corona or COVID-19? According to the Bourdieuan cultural capital, the way of saying it in a sentence will differ.
COVID-19 is a pandemic created by humanity in cooperation and with a lot of effort. “It is because we cannot establish a decent life and beyond this, we do not want it.” We did not want to live humanely, we did not want to remember that we are on the same planet and the same ship, we preferred the order where “every man skin on his own skunk”. We always looked at ourselves. What we condemn in someone else turned into our habit at the first opportunity we got. We did not care at all about the people who were persecuted somewhere away, most of all. At most, we wrote and drew a few emotional things to get retweets and likes on social media in our comfortable seats. We did nothing beyond that.
Secretly: It’s a word that means stealthily, sneakily. During the pandemic period, it started to be used as the prefix of the following words: Take off the mask, meet your friends, go to the funeral ceremony, congratulate bairam, carry more passengers, do not observe the distance.
Chine: HOW SHALL WE DEFINE THIS ARTICLE?
Spat between China and the USA: Two countries blaming each other for the COVID-19 pandemic. A clear demonstration of today’s non-transparent understanding of democracy and distorted management styles.
Nothing happens to kids and teens: The most brutal face of political economy. Another age group surrendered for the spinning of the wheel.
Juxtaposed with not allowing the 65-aged from going out in the early stages of the pandemic in Turkey, and wrong thinking that contributed to the formation of a perception which resulted in blaming the elderly for the spread of coronavirus.
It has left a toxic crowd that wraps this perception up in its degeneracy with the order of lock-down for those under the age of 20. But for people under the age of 20 who have to work and received “help” with a post-ban circular, this so-called reality seems to be accepted.
People of Çorum will take over the world: The culture of fellow-townspeople is strong in Turkey. The rumor that the people of Çorum, who were stigmatized in the country as “incorrigible”, produced a virus to take their revenge from the world and enmeshed the world in a pandemic was among the jokes made during the epidemic period. We constantly and loudly applaud everyone who understands the world and life by associating 19 of COVID-19 to the plate number of Çorum.
The shock that all 7 powerful families secretly ruling the world came from Çorum! The land of the “globalists”, those who produce “biological weapons”. The limitlessness of conspiracy theorists’ nonsense.
Activities with Kids: Activities for the development of fine motor skills, part-whole relationships, and imagination of children. We can say these are the activities that are made up with heart and soul to keep the children aged 3-5, who have the energy of 7 people stable for at least 15 minutes. Thanks to these activities, fine motor skills and imagination of children or parents improved. The parents in question are proud of completing the activities in the curriculum, which are planned for a year, in 2,5 months!
Staying home with kids: It can be defined as the experience of spending twenty-four hours in the same physical space after the schools closed on March 16, 2020. It is an effort to adapt weekend routines to every day of the week, and the table practice where the household partnership is most felt is at least three meals. These examples include playing various kinds of board games, spending time with card games such as “uno” and increasing activity hours. With the warming of the weather and the lock-down for children, the transfer of activities to the balcony, gardening, and cooking with the children in a new form is also other aspects of staying home with children. One of the most interesting and actually the most enjoyable processes is that traditional children’s games (hide and seek, playing tag, dodgeball, etc.) are played in the home corridors. The balcony of the house, on the other hand, has become the most important place among the playgrounds: Hopscotch, “playing picnic” and even water fighting are indispensable games. This period, in which the emphasis of the pedagogues to spend quality time is fully experienced, has sometimes caused inevitable tensions about routine housework. When the domestic work sharing is proportional, the tension between the family members decreased. When staying home with children is experienced with Miyazaki’s world, it becomes easier to overcome the Covid process!
Staying home with children is a not-so-great lifestyle before the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a killing environment especially for parents who have to work from home during the pandemic, when sectors such as the pharmaceutical industry, private healthcare services, and insurance, which are pushed to the top by neo-liberal economic policies, can only produce the solution for everyone to stay at home in the fight against the virus. This refers to the days filled with an inner desire for violence against the grievances of childless mortals who complain of not finding movies to watch, podcasts to listen to, being bored, sleeping too much, not being productive during the day, and gaining weight, by envying of the rest of the world. It defines the state of the mother’s hearts, who were overflowing with the feelings of “oh, how nice that we will spend quality time with our child” in the early days, shrink, dry and start to skip some beats because of fatigue at the end of two long months. An average of 5 hours of night sleep, the practice of cooking three meals that cannot be passed on due to the presence of the child, the transformation of the act of tidying up into something similar to the effort of cats to catch their tail, blisters on feet due to standing for several hours, and a crooked spine caused by carrying the baby can be included in the physical appearance of staying home with the child during the quarantine. The mental state can be described as a nostalgic act of mental escape, where the old days constantly flow through the mind like a film strip. Mental health is tried to be kept in a good condition by listening to audiobooks. These are the days of saying benediction prayer to the person who invented the audiobook.
D
Burial procedures: Rules on how to bury those who died with diagnosed COVID-19. The guide prepared by the Ministry of Health is available at https://covid19bilgi.saglik.gov.tr/depo/enfeksiyon-kontorl-onlemleri/COVID19-MorgveDefinHizmetleri.pdf
It includes measures to protect the health of morgue and mortuary employees. The article stating that one should not hug those who died at home is soul-shattering. The article stating that the deceased’s belongings are given to their relatives wrapped in a double layer of nylon, too. Death is harsh as always. The COVID-19 process has made this clearer. It increases the despair of death. It commits the sentence “there is always worse” deep into memory. Lockdown, intercity travel restrictions prevented many last goodbyes and wounded many people’s feelings. We saw people who could not go to the funerals of their mother, brother, or father.
Government support allowance: The non-refundable 1000 TL support allowance given to people by the government during the pandemic is work conducted in determining the needy and families in difficulty. Families benefiting from this support were satisfied by increasing their “welfare” levels (!) In short, having the bills to be paid, the food needs to be bought, they try to meet these basic needs with the support allowance granted. On the other hand, some people who are to become an influencer, the so-called “angels of goodness” who share their help to families with inadequate financial status from their social media accounts contribute to the situation of families.
State within the State: On April 1, 2020, the chief of the country said, “There will be no state within the state” after some mayors “abused” the pandemic and attempted to pave the way for us to make nonsensical requests by thinking that we live in a social law state.
Technically it is a false statement. What is meant can only be a government within the government. Because the government is not the state. It is the one who tries to -and must- be. In philosophy, a proof method has not yet been invented to start from the wrong and reach the right. There are academic studies on the subject in the verbal context, but these discussions are well above the education of the spokespersons of legal entities and the level they address. With increasing age, people gain self-confidence and say what they want, they don’t need to listen or understand. The problem is about the limit of rights and it is defined essentially. The principality within the sultanate, the feudal lordship within the kingdom, the municipality within the government, and cucumbers in strained yogurt are quite normal.
Disinfectant: Disinfection, the process of removing disease-causing microorganisms from the environment. The disinfectant is usually a liquid compound that provides this. An indispensable part of the speech of the local management who talks about the measures to be taken during the pandemic: Misusing the words disinfection, disinfectant, and disinfection interchangeably. An indispensable part of magazine news that is lacking in materials: Competing and scoring various disinfectant products (soap, cologne, alcohol, bleach, etc.). An indispensable part of social media: Viral marketing domestic disinfectant (Borel). An indispensable aspect of the all-knowing/conscious citizen who has not fully understood the subject: Explaining to neighbors and friends that antibacterial products are not effective against viruses in the manner of a distinguished professor
The smell of the liquid containing alcohol matched the times of corona in the public’s olfactory memory.
Drinking disinfectant: An alternative treatment method brought forward by US President Donald Trump during the peak of the pandemic. Realizing that the coronavirus can be easily inactivated by ordinary soap or disinfectants, Trump recommended that patients be injected with disinfectant intravenously with this method, which he expressed on television screens. The grimaces of the doctors who were with the President during his speech were a sign that conservative scientists would prefer to remain prisoners of their shallow minds instead of evaluating such creative solutions. As a matter of fact, after this speech, announcements were made to the public in the USA not to drink disinfectants and another glimmer of hope for destroying the viruses. However, applying the method only to the President would be a relieving step for both the USA and the world.
Dinçer Güner: Everything started on the night of December 31, 2019, with the New Year’s Special Program of the TV channel Habertürk. Fatih Altaylı was discussing with a group of astrologers what 2020 will bring us. Let’s keep the regulars apart, Dinçer Güner became the “star” of that night and the following pandemic. Regarding many questions that science and medicine could not answer, Dinçer Güner was able to interpret by reading the angles/opposite angles of the planets and stars, generate solutions to problems, motivate people positively, and warn people against dangers by giving certain day time periods. So far, everything was normal because astrologers were people who made predictions about the past, present, and future according to the movements of the planets and stars in the sky, and generally called themselves “life guides” and Güner was one of them. What made him different from the others? That what he said has come true almost literally. The reference point was the New Year’s Special Program. Astrology, which once considered Adorno as “irrational solutions to the rational problems of people” with astonishment, gets ahead of science thanks to COVID-19 and makes our minds rest which has been badly defeated by rationality.
Hair dye: It is a type of “hair whitewash” which should be “Root Dye” due to the coloring of the places close to the hair follicles. During the pandemic, it could not be done because the hairdressers were closed down and the true hair colors of women were revealed. There have been those who think that this is the only reason for the increased separation between men and women during the pandemic.
This cosmetic crisis, which is more common among women, shook us deeply. Those who pretend to be natural blondes, those who hide their gray hair from mirrors, those who underestimate the work of their hairdressers and try to dye themselves and walk around with colorful heads were all victims of root dye.
Dornase Alfa: The ultimate expectorant. A drug that reduces respiratory tract secretions. Thanks to Ercüment Ovalı, who came to the fore by claiming that he found a vaccine, we became aware of this drug.
Alternating shifts: Working at different times of the day, flexible working. The deceased Levent Kırca state that “if you do not put the same poor people on all shifts, this thing will alternate anyway.”
Postponement of hearings: The hearings were postponed within the scope of the measures taken after the coronavirus officially entered the borders of Turkey in March 2020.
Go for it, guys, what are you waiting for?
Mulberry molasses: The traditional product that makes mulberry molasses sellers from Erzurum happy upon the words of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “I consume a spoonful of mulberry molasses every morning, acquaintances from Erzurum send it” when the journalists hosted in the reception hall of the Presidential aircraft fleet asked about the method of protection from the pandemic. There are also varieties made of grape and carob in different regions.
We are only too glad: To the distance education and distance exams from elementary school to university, working from home, video talk, “Zoom” meetings, virtual markets, shopping on the internet, virtual museum visits, virtual concerts, virtual film festivals, virtual tours by listening to the virtual radio channel we prefer in the city we want to go in our virtual car, walking sessions and yoga sessions on the internet, distance Rummikub parties, baking our bread, distance conferences and symposiums, distance session of the council of ministers, distance patient care, digital health records, remote banking, and much more…
Capital Cities’ Alliance: An international platform established under the leadership of Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, that aims to gather the experience and knowledge gained in 43 capitals’ fight against COVID-19 in a common pool. In the project carried out by the municipalities, which came together with the principle of “Local Solutions for Global Problems”, on www.capitalsinitiative.org, it was stated that daily data, experiences, and suggestions would be compiled and published in 102 languages (sputnik).
E
Requesting mask from e-government: Never-ending waiting. The constant failure of the system. Inspired by İlhan Berk: “Your eyes were like the first years of the internet that I have always been waiting for”. Requesting everything from e-Government. It was delivered to me but not delivered to my husband, it was delivered to my wife but not delivered to my daughter, it was delivered to mom but not delivered to dad, it was delivered to my sister, why wasn’t it delivered to me? “I have come over everything but you.”
EBA: Education Informatics Network. Social education platform created by the Ministry of Education. The project, which came to life rapidly, was remembered with a few scandalous events in the first days. The newspapers wrote that audio alternatives to screen security codes for the disabled were not published. Thus, thousands of disabled students were aggrieved. However, the real scandal was the execution scene of Adnan Menderes. The Minister of National Education also reacted too strongly, and an investigation was initiated regarding the content. What about those who watched it? They just watched.
Spinach Sandwich: The meal distributed by the company, which went to the court for a 3 million TL lawsuit for mental anguish against the journalist Çiğdem Toker with the claim that its commercial reputation was damaged. The company also grows tomatoes in the greenhouse and does mining and construction works, which has been given to its workers to strengthen and become like Popeye the Sailor Man.
Economy: The “thing” where human life is at risk in order not to see economic rout although it is certain that it will collapse when a pandemic is in question.
Economic Stability Shield package: 21-point stimulus plan announced by the President due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Circles close to the government claim that it spells millions of people at the wheel, while opposition circles criticized that it only covers various sectors. Those who struggle with the virus, on one hand, fear losing their jobs, on the other hand, sing the same song:
(lyrics) Gaydırıgupbak Cemilem, nasıl nasıl edeyim de ben işe…
Elbet Bir Gün Buluşacağız (Surely, we will meet one day): The song Emine Erdogan sang in her stay at home message broadcast on April 12. “Happy days will come back like good news.”
Handshaking: We are still waiting. Handshaking: A freemason tradition. Our “national” greeting by taking the hand over the heart and bowing slightly during the pandemic while we use this greeting mostly in livestock market while holding on with both hands and haggling has spread all over the world. However, some groups turning their nose up at our customs have also introduced new inventions such as hitting the tip of the shoe or pushing at the elbow. Ultimately, encountered people did not know exactly what to do, as movements and behaviors such as touching, hugging and spanking have been prohibited during the pandemic. Although the origin of the handshake is to say, “I’m empty-handed and unarmed”, the sign by pointing both hands across that means “I give in” was used more during the pandemic.
Many years ago, people used to do it to show each other their friendship. It is a shame now; it should not be done. A way of expressing trust by extending the hand holding a sword to the opposite.
Hand washing: The act of personal cleaning that the average person practices at least several times a day for reasons such as coming home from the street, eating, going out of the toilet, etc. During the pandemic, it could be the antidote to “Infection”, as well as a situation that could be the subject of an obsession or a new paranoia (“Did I wash my hand after giving the garbage to the doorman/giving money to the delivery man/touching the door handle?) Judging by some of the interactions on Twitter, the act of cleaning that men perform less frequently and more incoherently than women. This action, which was previously explained to users in the toilets of universities, various institutions, and even gas stations, with pictures and letters, became the subject of the television spots of the Ministry of Health and the statements of various healthcare professionals after the pandemic. The handwashing style we learned and adopted after the pandemic probably had little or no similarity to the way most of us hand-washed before. Now people are singing the chorus part to themselves or counting up to 20 loudly to follow the 20-second rule… Because, according to the new unofficial handwashing directive, we have learned that it is necessary to wash our hands diligently way for at least twenty seconds by rubbing the palms, between the nails, the outer surface of the hand, and the periphery of the thumb. The need to wash our hands every half hour even when we were at home was among the words of that panic period. When we were reminded by the experts speaking on TV channels that with the use of disinfectants and cologne, the hands that were worn, wounded, cracked also bring the risk of becoming infected, we went into orbit for a moment. When the infectious diseases and clinical microbiologist Prof. Dr. Özlem Azap Kurt told us on HALK TV that we should moisturize our hands well with cream before going to bed at night, on a March day, when the panic in the face of the unknown hit the top, she imprinted in our minds as one of the most cheerful and sympathetic people of the process.
The danger of eczema, which worries even Serdar Ortaç, our most powerful weapon against the virus, in our civilization, which has advanced enough to send a car to space, has been imprinted in the minds as an action that will cause the world to suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Gloves: Hand clothing made of leather, rubber, or other materials worn on the hand for protection from cold or various external influences due to hygienic reasons.
I wear my surgical gloves every time I leave the house, and when I come home, I take them out of my hand as specified in the warnings and put them in a bag, I leave them in the bag for a few days and then throw them away. However, since the pandemic broke out, I have come across gloves of various colors on the streets and the grass. One of the things that annoyed me the most during the corona days was gloves scattered around sloppy.
Infected: Person or environment where the virus is transmitted. A living thing that has an infection. Dirty.
Take your hand out of your mouth: The warning most of us hear from our elders in childhood. It has also different versions. “Take your hand out of your eye”, “Take your hand out of your nose.” And it continues: “Or you’ll catch an infection! You’ll get ill and die!” I wouldn’t have believed that years later I would hear the same warning from doctors on TV ten times a day. I’ve grown up, I’m an adult now. But still hearing the warnings like “Don’t touch here, don’t touch there, go and wash your hands right now.” Back then, it didn’t really sit right with me, but apparently, it is true.
Nowadays, my thoughts when I see myself with one hand in my mouth is like: Go and wash your mouth right now with soap, stop, don’t hurry up, where you touched last, for example, the newspaper! – Newspaper production and distribution process are passing quickly before my eyes. – Two hours at the door. Ok, go on.
Intubated: In order to connect patients with respiratory failure (who cannot breathe adequately at normal air pressure) to the breathing apparatus, it is necessary to attach a pipe that reaches the trachea from the mouth. This process is called “intubation”. The prefix “in-” (or “en-” converts the word after it by putting a situation or causing. For example; en-case, en-danger, in-tubate…
Epidemic: The small-scaled pandemic, spread over a limited area, less imperial version. If Pandemic is a globalist, the epidemic is localist and nationalist. There is also a smaller one: Endemic. It is used to mean an epidemic that is widespread in a limited area, whereas we would think that it is the name of the plant species that grows only in one region (and not elsewhere). It was derived from the word épidémique as an adjective, which comes from the French word épidémie in the early 17th century. It has passed through the epidēmia, which is derived from the Greek word epidēmios meaning “spread of the disease”. It was formed from the union of epi (common) and dēmos (people). There are even gods of these epidemics in various cultures: Reseph, Apollon, Weh Shen, Vejovis, Sopona, Xipe Totek, Bogoma Han, etc.
Epi means lateral/horizontal in Latin. This word also means “Tilted” – sometimes.
Epidemiology: The branch of medicine that deals with diseases.
Opening to access: Theaters, museums, film festivals, exhibitions, parks around the world that we have never been or could not go to…
Flexible working: New work arrangements against the COVID-19 pandemic. A new set of rules for civil servants. Possibility to work from home. Opportunity to work alternately.
I already felt we were going to the office in vain.
Pets: Best friend of some of us. We are the parents of some. They are the sibling of some of our children, and some of them have a family thanks to them. We own some of them, and these souls are toys for some. They are not different from a teddy bear for them. Quite dispensable. They can be bought, abandoned. Their physical and emotional state doesn’t matter. Some of us are grieving as we look at what pets are exposed to in the pandemic. Since the first pandemic diagnosis in Turkey, the human-likes, who are afraid of the risk of infection from pets, abandon these poor babies. According to the statements of municipalities and Haytap members, pet abandonment has increased by 20 percent. These souls, who bring into a connection with the outer world through the love bond they establish with people, are helpless in the streets where they are abandoned. Against this, veterinarians and animal rights advocate loudly launched a “pet for a home” campaign. It was stated that living with a pet strengthens immunity and there has been no case of disease transmission determined. Are we going to love them as much as they benefit? They are the partners of this life. They have the right to live as much as we do. Just if this law was once made…
One of the most pathetic faces of this pandemic. News about shooting the neighbor’s dog with a gun started in the pandemic. Successive wild animal hunting auctions certainly contributed to normalizing these murders. Pay money and shoot the animal. If you won’t pay, just shoot the neighbor’s dog. Also, policies towards the animals, which have varying values from country to country, have changed in the pandemic. In Italy, for example, curfews were stretched for dog walkers. Several such stories have been heard in our country. For example, there were cute mothers over 65 who borrowed their daughter’s dog. But in some countries, dogs whose meat is claimed to strengthen immunity in the fight against COVID-19 were eaten with pleasure. This world is such a place.
Playground at home: Parents who do everything for their children have done that too. Maybe a little for themselves. We don’t know if anyone could set up a sandbox, but swings, slides, bumper cars are among the things we heard.
Exercises at home: When gyms were closed where we could do exercises reasonably 3 or 4 days a week, a new system was adapted at home due to the pandemic. In addition to exercises without equipment at home, a lot of athletes, trainers, and sports fans shared a lot of posts on social media with this statement. In fact, the motivations to get people into action were created by combining with the concept of a live broadcast.
Baking Bread at Home: A staple food item, production of which dates back 8 thousand years ago according to some rumors, and 9 thousand years ago according to others. With COVID-19 (Cavit-19 in its local and national form), citizens brutally began to make bread, which is food obtained by grinding and fermenting grain in general. It has been rediscovered with a childlike enthusiasm in 2020 that bread emerges when we mix yeast, flour, and water and put it in the oven.
Making good use of time. Transforming into Heidi with the smell of yeast in the rooms. The action that makes us say that if we keep yeast too long as our ancestors, we will also make beer.
Let’s come to the tricks. To keep the oven moist, put an ice cube in it, and spread some yogurt so that the top is browned well. Another important trick is that if you draw a straight line on the bread, you’ll get an ordinary loaf of bread as if it was bought from a neighborhood bakery. But if you shape it round or square and draw the top as a cross, you’ll have a more glamorous, eye-catching, more “Instagramous” bread. However, the traditional bread, which is described as `dry bread’ and eaten with something, has been divided into categories such as `garlic bread, turmeric baton bread, sourdough bread with beets’, and while the traditional mothers of the time shared their `fermented dry bread’ in classical media such as Facebook, others displayed their bombastic bread in more visual and promising channels. From a section that cannot find bread to those who display it: “Have plenty of Covid-free bread that strengthens the immune system!”
Besides, depending on your graduate education, you can announce your bread on social media with the title of “academic bread”. The new phrase that appears on Twitter when precious scientists take a break from their laboratories, experiments, and classes and start baking bread: Academic Bread.
The stages of mastering bread making are as follows: Making baklava at home, making hamburgers at home, and finally saying “I’ll cook this for you” by turning up your nose to everything you see outside. A burst of self-confidence.
We stayed at home: We organized the libraries. We sorted out the clothes. We changed the decoration of the house many times. We baked bread, started to feed pets, organized shelves, whitewashed, cut our own hair, shaved our own hair, cooked regularly in the kitchen, increased water and electricity costs, educated remotely, met, drank raki, had heart-to-heart talks, congratulated each other’s bairam, celebrated a birthday, rediscovered the place, spent a lot of time with each other. We sat up late in the evening, made tea and cake, slept until noon, watched our fathers’ unfamiliar kitchen and cleaning experiences. If the family is a bit crowded, efforts to grab the remote to watch TV increased, we tried the herbal mixes, we ordered books to share on social media, we gained some weight due to the food we ate… The various family works at home have strengthened the bonds of love and added experience to each of us. Some of us could never stay with ourselves and sought solitude. We didn’t leave any corner at home that we haven’t visited.
Home isolation: It is when people who have positive COVID-19 test result or who contact with positive people are locked home for 14 days. If we live at home with other people, it is necessary to be locked in a certain place in the house.
Yeah, great…
Stay at home: COVID-19 is a virus, and it can easily infect people of all ages, young or old, poor or rich, and sadly somehow kill those whose immunity was not strong enough. The picture was similar all over the world. Even though it was like this at the beginning, the virus quickly became denominational. The economic and social gap between those who have job security provided by the private sector or the government, have the freedom to stay at home, and those who don’t have job security, must work daily, have widened. In our country, #stayathome could not go beyond being a kind of social media caprice. Those who wanted to stay at home but could not stay at home could not experience the quarantine as a kind of “inner journey” or “seclusion”. In our country, the virus has been equated with a loss of money rather than a loss of health. Going out on the street was seen as a must on weekdays and luxurious on the weekend. Being thankful has become more of a necessity than a consolation for some of us in the fight against the pandemic.
This is one of the radical solutions to stop Covid. You should not look at the ads. Life does not fit into homes; home is not so nice. Life is on the streets.
What kind of an item is this! I condemn you strongly. I will never allow you to poison the minds of young people with these views that are contrary to the family structure of our nation. I’m 43 years old after all. What does stay at home mean? What kind of discrimination is this? Everywhere I know, I will complain about those of you who have come together as so-called sensitive people, who humiliate us as so-called academics, so-called article writers. I will draw you from pillar to post. Stay at home, hah!
Stay at home application: It is an application that can be downloaded to your smart device and make you stay at home when you apply it (when you rub it on your eyes and face). Undoubtedly, stay at home is coming and will come.
As soon as you download it, it creates a feeling of being watched by all intelligence organizations such as the CIA, MIT, FBI, etc. But it also has a sympathetic side… “How are you today?” it asks, you take a shine to it. You feel like sitting down and telling. We are fine. We are at home. We watch local TV series to see the Istanbul streets in times when there were people.
When my infection values are high in blood tests, I have done in a private hospital for fever of 37.8 degrees, diarrhea, and headache, it is the medium I applied with the recommendation of the doctor. Since I don’t have a fever of 38 degrees, cough, or shortness of breath, the app suggested that I try this online questionnaire again later. It relieved me. I’m resting at home, let the binge-watch begin.
Our medium-risk street has changed color this week. We have turned blue. We are low-risk now. But our lower street is high-risk. So? Walk along the upper street, the virus can’t get there.
Corona testing at home: It is a corona test performed by some private hospitals coming to your home. Prices and conditions vary from hospital to hospital. While some hospitals overcharge, others only test for those coming from abroad or for those who have no symptoms.
It’s better than being in the hospital.
Shaving husband at home: A joint effort that started with hope and the family unity comes to the brink of disintegration in the process, and at the end, which is the moment to look in the mirror and see the back of the neck, desperation, acceptance for one of the parties and hysterical paroxysm of laughter for the other party. The women share their worst shaving experiences, giggling. Men not saying a word to each other’s shaving and wandering “I guess mine isn’t that bad”.
Cooking at home: The action that led us to realize with the team that the usual answers about how many meals a day people eat are invalid. Do you wonder who is on the team? Saucepan, stove, sponge, cutting board, dishwasher, refrigerator, table, husband.
Preparations to leave the house: This action, which was performed after checking the bag, wallet, mobile phone, key in the past, is now the action that starts with the supply of the team consisting of a face shield, protective glasses, mask, hand disinfectant, spare mask, plastic gloves. If there are any shortages, it will be alright on the night.
F
Phase 2: Let’s go through all the phases.
Phase I: It is the safety assessment of a drug or device. This initial testing phase, which can take several months to complete, is usually done with a small number of volunteers (20 to 100) who receive payment or privilege to participate in the study. The study is designed to determine the effects of the drug or device on humans, including how it is absorbed, metabolized, and excreted. This stage also explores the side effects that occur as dosage levels increase. Approximately 70% of experimental drugs pass this testing stage.
Phase II: Tests the effectiveness of a drug or device. It can last from a few months to two years and includes several hundred patients. The phase II studies are randomly selected studies where one group of patients received the experimental drug while a second “control” group received either a standard treatment or a placebo (sugar pill). Often these studies are “blind,” meaning that neither patients nor researchers know who took the experimental drug. It provides the pharmaceutical company of the researchers and the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency of the country in which it was made, comparative information on the relative safety and efficacy of the new drug. Approximately one-third of experimental drugs successfully complete both Phase I and Phase II studies.
Phase III: Random and blind test study in several hundred to several thousand patients. The research, which could last for several years, gives the pharmaceutical company and the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency a more comprehensive understanding of the drug or device’s effectiveness, benefits, and range of possible side effects. 70% to 90% of drugs entering phase III studies successfully complete this test phase. Once Phase III is complete, a pharmaceutical company may seek approval of the Agent to market the drug.
Phase IV studies often referred to as Post-Marketing Surveillance Trials, are conducted after a drug or device has been approved for consumer sale. Pharmaceutical companies have several goals at this stage: (1) to compare a drug with other drugs currently on the market; (2) to monitor the long-term effectiveness of a drug and its impact on the patient’s quality of life; and (3) to determine the cost-effectiveness of drug treatment over other traditional and novel therapies.
Filiation: The word that entered our lives with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is used to mean contact tracking. It is important for epidemics and pandemics. The filiation teams work to reveal the chain of transmission in Turkey during the COVID-19 period.
Physical distance: There is no such phrase in our language. Political distance will not be meant for no reason in colloquial language. Yet it is more beneficial than geographic distance. The maps are available for distribution on a scale of 1/10000.
While driving, we got a warning from the police that my wife next to me was sitting in the front seat, so she did not follow the physical distance rule. However, does not he know that there is no physical distance with my wife at night?

G5: Internet technology. Restructured technological infrastructure. We have started to use it frequently in the context of conspiracy theories. This concept was discovered only as a point. Now it has increased to 5. Whatever you touch, occupation, hygiene, isolation, distance reveals…
Gene factor: The factor suggested to be one of the reasons why the disease is harder in some and milder in others. The dangerous discourse of mediocre science that television produces without getting bored will lead to racism and almost its next level, eugenism.
Go before the mirror. Count how many corners you have. And that’s it…
The indifference of young people: Defining a very understandable situation as “indifference”. Young people are in the period of getting to know themselves by looking at the social mirror, but the mask on their mouth prevents them from being recognized. They don’t unwittingly wear their masks to show their faces in the social mirror. Moreover, it is not possible for them to flirt or have sex with a mask.
Meteor will hit The sensational claim of Turkey’s media about the Asteroid 1998 OR2. According to the Teyit.org classification, this is fake news. NASA’s announcement that Asteroid 1998 OR2 will pass from the closest point of its orbit to Earth on April 29, 2020, was reported as a disaster scenario as “Meteorite may hit the Earth on April 29”. However, the asteroid’s closest distance to Earth was 16 times the distance between the moon and the earth. April 29 passed, and the asteroid continued its journey in outer space. Our media has also archived images from the Deep Impact movie until another Asteroid passes from the closest point next year.
This is the only hope of the people who got bored of the high-tension blue big ball, it can also be called a kind of utopianism, losing the power to change the world.
Volunteer State of Emergency: The state of volunteering that can turn into a Voluntary Revolution or Voluntary People’s Power when the ground and the weather are good as expressed in many posts on social media during the times of corona.
The state’s proposal to citizens, who declare a lock-down and refrain from fulfilling its economic and social requirements.
Those who are in good shape were seen to have successfully declared their State of Emergency, while those who did not have the means to remain without the State of Emergency. Also, this brought the following questions to mind: Will panzer or similar vehicles not be able to wander around the street during the State of Emergency, or will the citizens provide them themselves, will we make the unlawful detentions in the apartment alternately with the neighbors, how will we lose someone if it is necessary, should we use them with our own means in the basement, should we export the building manager? However, these questions remained unanswered.
Hacı Bey, one of the favorite successors of the Sabancı family calmed the confused and panicking citizens by saying, “Calm down champion”, which made us say “Only if I got money and bought such a state of emergency and embarrass my state of emergency”.
Video call: Making a video call using smartphones to fulfill our longing with relatives and loved ones who cannot be contacted. While normally we cannot find the time and do it due to our tight schedules, it is a communication way that has become even more possible with many people staying at home on quarantine days. Seeing our relatives from the worst camera angles we have never been exposed to before, cheering up with a frozen image when our mouth is at its most crooked position. The breakthrough that made the old people stubborn and resisted not to use smartphones, make peace with technology in the hope of seeing their grandchild every day.
Unblockable impulse: Open a video call and watch yourself on the front camera. The new social norm, the new shame: Using the image on the front camera as a mirror during video conversation, squeezing pimples, taking the green thing between the teeth.
We looked at each other for a long time. But that last kiss remained in mind, not that look. What an ugly kiss we were sending when closing it. Also, the person sending kisses remains on the screen. It’s awkward.

Halay Stick: 1.5-meter sticks have taken their place among the measures taken with the news that the wedding season will begin.
Halay is the general name of the folk dances played especially in the East, but it is not limited to those regions. Wherever we live, every party, every dealer meeting, every wedding will definitely be finalized with halay. Being hand in hand, arm in arm, the halay, danced in blood, sweat, and tear with the enthusiasm of feeling like just one body, one heart, will be played with a halay stick in the new normal. It is not known whether the same enthusiasm or the same pleasure is achieved, but no matter what, that halay will be danced, that’s all!
Public health: The field of science that includes the concept of “health for the people”, not for capital.
The air has been cleared and animals have been relaxed: As people locked themselves down in their homes and nature cleansed from the pollution caused by humans, animals have rejoiced. Goats in Wales seal in Bodrum, apples, and bananas, all of them overflowed.
Life fits into the home: A smooth-spoken warning phrase that is frequently heard in Turkey during the pandemic. But it has put no more than a bitter smile on the faces of those who are faced with the painful dimension of economic realities.
Only if we died luckily: Due to the Elazig earthquake that occurred shortly before the announcement of the first COVID-19 case in Turkey, the post of a citizen saying, “An earthquake occurred, do not stay at home, they say there is a pandemic, do not go out. Only if we died luckily,” took its place among the most favorite ones regarding the state of the country.

IBAN: A banking term before the pandemic and an abbreviation that can be considered as the name of a management style in Turkey after the pandemic. Such as “IBAN-state”, “IBANism” instead of “nation-state” or “social state”. On the evening of March 30, 2020, President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during his heroic and usually algorithmic speech, said that they launched the “We Meet Each Other’s Need Turkey” campaign to support low-income citizens, he will donate his seven-month salary to the campaign and citizens are expected to donate to the given IBAN numbers. Apart from the fact that the posts on social media with the # ZırnıkYok (No to giving even a smallest bit) tag right after the speech brought detentions and arrests again, the effort of the highest level representative of a state to raise money via IBAN in the face of the biggest and widespread pandemic in modern world history made us to pray God to show His mercy for the Industrial Revolution, for the modern state theories including the most liberal one and the understanding of the nation-state. Fortunately, the things that IBAN evoked were not limited to this weird memory, IBAN has been an instrument in social support networks to support solidarity groups, to support two friends each other or to reach out to someone you know is in a difficult situation.
Administrative fine: Established by being removed from the Turkish Penal Code, added to the Misdemeanor Law and expanded with special laws, it is the type of punishment imposed on those who do prohibited deeds that you can get rid of by making the payment. The use of this type of penalty has become so widespread over time that people have started to think that it is the most important revenue item of the budget of the Republic of Turkey. Although the actions that changed from day to day during pandemic were determined and administrative fines were imposed, it was never learned whether they have the ability to collect, and it has become one of the great mysteries of the period.
2020 Olympic Games: While the collective athletic event which took its current form with the Olympic Games in 1859, although it is alleged that it started in the Olimpia region of Greece in 776 BC, held every four years, for which the countries spend a hundred times more on construction than their investments in sports and must deduce it from the share allocated to sports in order to host, were decided to be held in Tokyo in 2020, it has been postponed for the fourth time in its history due to the pandemic.
Although it was claimed that Brazilian President Dilma Roussef, who refused to spend money on construction and gaudy opening and closing ceremonies in the Olympic Games held in Brazil in 2016, was superseded by the deep Olympic committee, it could not be confirmed. However, the 2016 Olympic Games went down in history with the “Refugee National Team” established by athletes who had to migrate due to wars, famine and poverty. When the athletes in this team won, the Olympic Anthem was played and the Olympic Flag, symbolizing the brotherhood of the five continents, was raised.

England: It is a land of freedom without prohibitions where you can run in the parks that leaves not only the elderly but everyone to die, regardless of their age. It can also be defined as the country that offers the concept of herd immunity to the world. So, people were clearly “animalized” thanks to a sexless virus. Acting on the principle of “life goes on”, when the power itself (Prince Charles and the prime minister) got coronavirus, they realized that the corona does not pity anyone, albeit a little late.
Spanish flu: The payoff of modernity, another human tragedy we forgot in parallel with the acceleration of time. The name of the deadly flu pandemic between 1918-1920, a subtype of H1N1. It infected more than five hundred million people and killed about fifty million people.
Spanish flu affected more healthy young adults, unlike the human profile affected by the current COVID-19 outbreak. With the coronavirus turning into a pandemic, it came to the agenda of the whole world again. There have been many reports in the media about how people who have defeated the Spanish flu are doing in the current pandemic.

Italy: The country where young people sing arias on the balcony, and the elderly people are left to die. It can also be defined as the country that reveals the need for the elderly in Turkey to be thankful a thousand times. Because the elderly in our country were not left to die, they got off from this pandemic cheap by being locked at home. They should always remember this fact, if they do not, they will be reminded of this fact by the young TV front-man and doctors or by the minister.
Italy-Çeşme Connection: Çeşme Port owned by a private company engaged in import and export with Italy where the employees were allowed to work even though it was determined that they got COVID-19, in order to save the whole country’s economy.
Recovered: The number we are happy to see it increasing every day in the daily corona chart. And the following question is “what happens when you recover?”. According to the statement of the Science Committee, recovered one means one who has been discharged. The reduced burden from the health system, or in other words, the patient who leaves the bed to the next. In other words, it is not about being corona-free. The group of patients who should continue to stay at home and are not free from the risk of transmit and spread.
Kindness is contagious: One of many quotations about kindness in our language. Municipalities are looking for ways to contribute to the livelihood of citizens during this period of poverty. Mansur Yavaş says, “write the poor’s debt off from the grocery store”, İmamoğlu asks for support for utility bills with “suspended bills”, and the municipality in Izmir creates the opportunity to deliver food packages to the poor with the “We are here” campaign. Municipalities have become a bridge between those who has and doesn’t have the possibilities and donors don’t know to whom their donations have reached. Kindness contaminates, and the movement is expanding in public.

Sheep’s head and foot soap: It is the frequently used name of the soup type, which has been declared as a protector against the virus by Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay, who has rehabilitated butter, eggs, meat and, of course, offal that has gone on the ground for decades as a source of cholesterol and has ruined sugar and flour…. It is the scientific healers’ guide to combating the pandemic of the “New Middle Ages” as described by Eco. If you request sheep’s head and foot soap from good cook, he will look at your face like İlber Ortaylı. For this reason, it is imperative that you say what part of the head you want. Garlic and vinegar are added if desired. We longed for sheep’s head and foot soap because of not being able to leave this house.

Freedom to Get Dirty: Quarantine has caused most people to revert to bad habits they had given up. It took me a long time to stop sniffing the bleach, kick the dust clusters along the corridor and skip to a joyful reading with coffee. Many years ago, I had locked my inner love of cleanliness into forty-locked chests like secret affairs. I was no longer collecting toys by categorizing them as animals, cars, logos, dolls, and not folding the socks in the same size as a square. The clothes hangers and the cutlery in the drawer were not facing in the same direction, they were all mixed up, looking at whoever they wanted.
I thought I was left behind to fold the clothes out of the machine, to sort them from long to short and to hang them. Wearing white socks after cleaning and walking around the house, cleaning the house again if the sole of the socks got dirty, going into the tiles with a toothbrush, scraping the sides of the stove with a toothpick before I went crazy was as far as a star. I had hardly saved myself from the false peace of wiping the electrical sockets by taking wet wipes in hand when I finished all the cleaning. I thought I treated myself. I thought I had transformed into a relaxed and organic girl who now makes her own natural detergents and lives with the slogan “toxic-free home, toxic-free life!”. I have long left myself at the mercy of my cleaning ladies who came home. I was no longer responsible for the dusty top shelf of the loader, hooray! I was free!
Until the lock-down. My freedom to get dirty was captive, like all freedoms in quarantine. It all started one morning when I woke up with an unbearable desire to clean up. I started painting the outer door, the hangers and all the old stuff like crazy. I almost even painted the bus stop. I went to the store and bought a bottle of bleach that I hadn’t used for a long time. The cleaning monster in me reincarnated as I lifted its lid and sniffed a dose. It was like the first breath after quitting smoking. Everything passed before my eyes like a film strip. I immediately looked at the windows, it was not snowing outside, oh my God, the windows were sordid, and it was sunny outside. My blind eyes, which I once hid behind curtains, started to see. Later, I found myself removing all the blinds in the house and bubbling with a brush in the shower cabin. Now that I was lost, the idea of cleaning the loopholes of the radiators with cotton swabs haunted me. Then I caught myself planning what to wipe the walls with. I was fighting with myself, eventually deceiving myself and getting to work. God, please, I was saying, let this quarantine end before I take the hose and wash the roof. I wanted to stop, go back to my old dirty days. After all, getting dirty was nice, right? Tell me, wasn’t it good to get dirty? RIGHT??!!
Narrowing Personal Spaces: Okay, we’re lucky, we’re home, our only mission is to stay home. We are healthy, we are grateful, we are always together with children, we are always together, always! God, we walk around the house saying we are cars, we will crash whatever comes in front of us, if we go to the WC for two minutes, they almost hang the announcement that we are wanted, thank God, we will remain calm… They almost became our organs; we are together in such a way that we fear that we will have to give birth them again after quarantine.
We’re dying of loss of personal space, help! Our personal spaces are sore, our social distances are aching. All of our madness due to violation of personal space. Let’s ban sitting on the same sofa. Why are we all sitting on the same triple sofa? You are in the same room in the big house, okay, but why are you on the same sofa, dear family members? We sat down, okay, why are you jumping kid? We cook together in the kitchen, look at the phone together, read books and watch movies together, so we become integrated. We are not inducing, we are deducting. We can’t all fit into the bathroom, thank God, but if we try hard, we can. We all go to bed and get up at the same time. Olly olly oxen free! God, we are dying of a loss of personal space, our social distances aching, our crowded places are sore.
Personal protective equipment: Equipment given to cleaning staff for television shooting, but not medical personnel.
Cologne: Every global phenomenon gets local reactions. I think cologne is the most locally produced material in Turkey’s fight against corona.
Colchicine: A life-saving drug that suppresses the immune system in diseases such as Familial Mediterranean Fever, Gout and in some cases where the immune system mistakenly attacks body cells. Canadians first tried it on COVID-19. Its intended use is based on the following finding: COVID-19, which settles in the lung, tends to spread so much that immune system cells that want to prevent its spread cause inflammation in a wide area of the lung. The patient is suffocated by the fluid that this inflammation creates in the lungs. It is thought that if the immune system is suppressed with colchicine, the patient may be saved, but the drug has not been shown to be beneficial in every patient.
Conspiracy theories: Groundless theories produced during the pandemic. The guide to understanding the crisis, the way of constructing the conspiracy according to different ideologies, and the most common one is this: “Israel produced the virus.”
Korona: Turkish use of the word Corona. It means crown. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, Corona means: “A circle of light visible sometimes around the moon at night or around the sun during an eclipse.” In 1968, scientists who compared the virus they looked at under the microscope to a solar corona, gave the virus this name.
It is what makes all religious groups (Jewish, Christian, Muslim) accept evolution and mutation, and what keeps mosques, churches, synagogues closed.
Coronavirus: The word virus means poison in Latin; it is the microscopic agent that causes infectious disease. Corona is the name given to the ring of gas formed around the sun during the eclipse, resembling a bright crown. The coronavirus, which consists of the formation of these two words, is a virus that takes its name from its appearance in the virus family. In 1968, scientists who compared the virus they looked at under the microscope to a solar corona, gave the virus this name.
Corona defiance: A flood of emotions that are highly contagious, spreading faster than the virus, from those who stay at home too much, those who cannot stay at home and have to work. The part of those close to social hysteria that is being kept at home for now with curfews. Offending to the reflection in the mirror. Self-explosion. Cute reactions to the unanswered state of waiting for excessive understanding. Get offended, get cross, get angry, get cross with the one offended, and get angry with the one got crossed.

Corona Diaries: If Corona spoke and kept a diary during the times of coronavirus, it would definitely write something like this. Dear diary, I say to myself that such daredevils are scarce nowadays, many presidents from British Prime Minister Johnson to US President Trump are my best allies. My dear friend Johnson visited the hospital today, without a mask and any protection measures, and he went to the TVs in the evening and said, “I went to a hospital today and even shook hands.” I think he will learn that it is a corona virus and will increase the measures throughout the country. The British government, which believes in natural selection, cooperated very firmly with me these days, I would like to express my gratitude to them. As for Trump, I can say he is my biggest and most important ally. He didn’t even take me seriously at first, and then he says I will lose power in April. Oh, my dear ally, is this even possible while you exist? Recently you even went to a mask factory without a mask, and at the press conference, you asked, “Can we not inject disinfectant into people’s bodies?” This is what courage I say, don’t do such things.
Coronaphobia: It can be defined as wiping the cologne bottle with disinfectant, wiping the disinfectant bottle with bleach, keeping the bleach can on the balcony for at least three days. In addition, clothes can be taken off in front of the door getting caught by the neighbors and thrown into the washing machine to be washed at 90 degrees in a nylon bag. The nylon bag is either thrown away or hung on the balcony to be kept for three days. It is said that there is no cure.

Fight against corona: War, essentially saying harsh words to each other. Nowadays, since no other method can be developed as a way to solve any problem, we are always in a fight against inflation, traffic accidents, internal and external enemies. During the pandemic, the infectious disease that created a public health problem was fought. Health service providers were defined as “fighters in front” and medical equipment as “ammunition” and it was suggested that they be declared “martyrs” in case they die due to occupational diseases. The root of this approach is the unfounded belief that they should be people who are expected to sacrifice themselves for the life of the society and are therefore regarded as normal to die.

In my dream, I was swimming in the sea with a surgical mask. I had the right to take only 100 strokes. Then the mask was going to fall apart. 100 strokes, only 100. I’ve never been so tormented while swimming.
In my dream, I took the city bus without a mask, I was going to walk to work but I was late. As soon as I got on the bus, I thought how crowded it was. Because the place where the driver is must be safe, I tried to move forward while sighing “But it should have been empty!”. That moving forward probably took hours. The dream became a nightmare. Finally, I saw injured women being carried in the front rows. Someone had a knife in his stomach and a child in his arms. Someone’s face was completely black-and-blue. They didn’t have masks, either. So, neither did I, nor did women and I was afraid. Someone, please wake me up. Later, I told my husband and he said your butt must have been remained open. However, the last news I watched before I went to sleep was again a female murder.
In my dream, the virus was chasing, I was running, I put on the mask at the last moment. I hope it could not enter. See, Masked dreams.

If you want to find out if the guy, you’re dating is that kind of guy, say him “I’d like to know more about you,” or “I’d like to talk to you more.” If the man in front of you reacts as if you kneeled in front of him and said something like “you are my sainted present, let’s get married” even though you have known him for a month, try to avoid him as if you saw coronavirus. The side effects of these men are to convince you that you are seriously in love with them, and this effect sometimes causes your therapist to tell you that “you are not in love with every man you find nice”.

Lemon cologne: Multi-functional yellow-colored liquid alcohol. Anti-Covid, moreover, the relieving material of the bairam visits which are often nightmares.
Liquid alcohol that is believed to be an instant virus killing life saver, moreover, makes the hands smell pleasant. In fact, any cologne made of eighty degrees of alcohol would do the same but wouldn’t work in killing viruses. Because viruses are not living organisms, it was not possible for them to die. They were only likely to be removed by mechanical cleaning. The virus could not exist on its own in the external environment, but they could remain in particles and microparticles without breaking up. It was these particles and microparticles that were removed by mechanical cleaning. Eighty-degree alcohol is a substance that temporarily immobilizes bacteria (not all types of bacteria, only encapsulated bacteria) by swelling their capsules, so cologne does not even kill bacteria, but temporarily inactivates them. In fact, cologne is an application that can replace water and soap in situations where water is not available, provided that doing mechanical removal with a wet wipe to remove particles that may be present in the viruses.
Luppo: Some kind of cake. At around 22.00 in the evening of April 10, it was declared that it was prohibited to go out for two days in 31 provinces starting from 00.00 at night. Thereupon, people flocked to the markets, worrying about what to eat and drink for 2 days. Meanwhile, a photo of Luppo in the hands of a citizen while waiting at the market queue was shared on social media and caused a lot of discussion. It is not known whether those who criticized the citizen for buying Luppo were embarrassed to read his story right after, but this incident went down in history as an example of how dangerous it is to prejudge people.
I got it, yeah, I bought Luppo. Moreover, I did not buy it because of the curfew. The construction site is far dude, don’t you see? I leave the house at six, six days a week. I’m on the construction site at half past seven. We have breakfast on the road, at the service. Hasan is on my right, Hüseyin on my left, Rıza in front of me, Hamza behind me… If we eat two each, the package will be over, dude. Sometimes one of us has a fever, his throat hurts, he doesn’t want to eat, then we have a field day!… It was my turn the next morning, and I bought Luppo. You have written tons of things on social media, but as I said, I bent iron at the construction site all day, I wasn’t aware of them. Just forget about me, they say players will get sick if leagues start! Don’t you dare!..

Hungarian ambassador: The person who attracted a lot of sympathy with his social media posts during this period. He speaks Turkish very well and tells that he misses walking in Tunalı. Especially, the answer “I wish” that he gave the deliveryman recognized him and asked, “Aren’t you the Hungarian ambassador?” went viral on social media.
The Hungarian ambassador and employees of the Hungarian Cultural Center celebrated our holiday by singing the Turkish National Anthem one line each on April 23. Besides, they attracted the attention of literature lovers with the activity of reading Turkish poems from our great poets. The accents are nice. Hungarian. We love these sympathetic people.
Neighborhood solidarity groups: Our cute journalist neighbor started ours. He gathered everyone from pharmacists and lawyers to doctors and academics and created a WhatsApp group, so we became aware of the elderly, ill neighbors, and those unable to go out in the building and the neighborhood. If one of us went out on the street, informed the others. Urgent needs were thus met. We felt like humans. The beauty of being human, being neighbors, and solidarity. Thanks a lot, to him.
Going to the Market: Even ordinary, routine, sometimes even fun activities in daily life such as market shopping changed their meaning during the times of pandemics. When you think that the street is full of 19-year-old Cavits who are waiting to attack you, you are a bit scared, especially in the first days when more care was taken to stay at home. The panic started on the night before the day to go to the market, so that it could cause sleep to be lost and even nightmares of being infected in the market. The blue devils accompany you while you wake up calmly in the morning; You got that bitter answer “You know, we will go to the market together” to the question “What are you doing here?”. You can’t help but waking up and getting prepared. Damn, on quarantine days, the food and beverage in the house run out quicker, because there is a direct connection between worry and boredom and the refrigerator door.
Market Preparation: First, suitable clothes will be chosen for the market visit. It should be a faded cloth prepared to sacrifice, and, if possible, something that is comfortable and has plenty of pockets, which will not be a problem to wash with boiling water over and over again. Preferably an old sweatsuit. After the clothes are equipped, it’s time for the ammunition to be put into the pockets. Right trouser pocket for the key, some money can be put in left pocket. If a card will be used and there will be no need for money, a deeper jacket pocket should be preferred. God forbid, if it falls, it may be necessary to go to the bank. What are we doing then? We fold our clean bags with a clean history in our house nicely and place them in our left jacket pocket. Since shopping will be made and products will not come by flying, it may be necessary to disinfect the market car and other places that we will touch. Oh, there is the apartment door, there are the elevator buttons, who knows how many fingers touched before us. How can we know they weren’t infected? Then grab a bottle of disinfectant. If possible, prefer a small spray bottle so that it does not take up space and fits in our pocket. If the equipment is ok, we can move on to domestic preparations. Let’s leave the balcony door open so that we do not touch the door handle with our infected hands to open the door for keeping the bags for a while. Of course, the bathroom door expects the same treatment from us. Did we open the doors? Good. Then we lay out a newspaper where we will put the bags in the first place so that our floor does not come into contact with possible viruses. Well, we’re more or less ready, it’s time for the mask. We go in front of the mirror and put our masks on our ears. If there is a noseband, we bend it and make ourselves unrecognizable. Oh, we forgot our market shoes waiting on the balcony, we immediately transfer them to the outside door with the help of a paper towel. Finally, we pull a pair from the glove box located on the shoe rack, put them on, wear our shoes, taking care not to touch the inside, and hit the road, here we go.
Returning from the Market: We go out by paying attention not to touch the handrails, pushing the button if we get on the elevator, and opening the entrance door again with the help of a napkin. Wow, the sun is shining, the trees are green, the birds are chirping, it’s a rushing spring outside. With timid steps, lamenting what we missed, we are going to the nearest market, by running back or sideways when we see a person. We spray disinfectant on the handles and the floor of the grocery cart that we quickly pull from our pockets, take a deep breath and enter. “Hands up!” Sorry, I thought I was in a western movie as I wear a mask. Of course, we do not do such a thing, we walk around the stands in a well-behaved manner. If we see another customer coming over us, we immediately reverse and run away from the scene. We choose the products we will buy from the back rows, untouched, and head to the cash register without wasting time. If there is a queue in front of the cash register, we wait like puffy on a rock cake and approach when there are fewer people. We take out our bags with a clean history from our pockets and fill them in a hurry, make the payment with a contactless card, if we have, or a regular card, and run away without looking back.
We climb the stairs huffing and puffing, open the door with difficulty, throw the bags on the previously laid newspaper, take off the shoes and enter. We sweat due to the mask and excitement so that we leave the bags as they are, first take off our gloves properly, get rid of our mask by holding its elastic bands, then put both of them in a bag, close it, throw them away and hurl ourselves into the bathroom. The door was open, we tap with the help of a paper napkin, spray the soap into our hands again with the help of a napkin, we start washing our hands and singing “Happy Birthday to You” at the same time. Because, according to experts, 30 seconds coincides with this entire song. Every day is a feast for the lunatic, and every day is a birthday for pandemic individuals. If the hands are washed, the bags can be transferred to the balcony, and then the hands can be washed again. We touched the bags after all, just in case. Then the disinfectant is taken out of the pocket and sprayed onto the door handles and the places we think we touched. Cards, keys, and coins also benefit from disinfectants. The front of the door is wiped with water with bleach and we hop in the shower with peace of mind. Please do not forget to wash your clothes at 60 degrees and pay attention to the items waiting on the balcony when the time comes…
Mask: The COVID-19 preventive that the whole world has to wear as if they come from robbery. Instead of CDs, masks are now attached to the rearview mirror of cars. It is something like a “veil” that makes us feel like we have transformed into something else, like in the movie Mask – especially when the gloves accompany it – after a certain period after starting to wear, which actually protects not us but the other person from us. It was evident from the walking style that some of us felt like surgeons in the movies with gloves on. Mask: expressionlessness. Do not say anything, let your eyes speak to me.
Mask Fashion: Mask is a French-origin word (masque). During the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, the fashion of the mask, which is mandatory in many countries, has emerged over time. When the effect of the fear of death, which was felt at the beginning, softened and the idea of living with the pandemic became accustomed, the fashion wind has started to blow.
Although it was preferred in the first few days of the pandemic and expensive compared to others (surgical, medical, washable, nano, or cloth mask), the most sought mask was N95. Since it was popular, the most expensive ones were produced by fashion designers. Masks such as bandanas worn on the hair have become common accessories. For example, while the simplest medical mask can be purchased for 1 Turkish Lira in pharmacies and markets, the simplest fabric mask in bag-jewelry-accessory stores is 10 Turkish Lira.
World-famous fashion brands first made surgical masks and produced masks to help healthcare professionals. However, then famous brands printed only their logos to produce and sell masks. Despite the quarantine practices in the world, Louis Vuitton, Marine Serre, Gucci masks, which were offered for sale on the internet, attracted great attention and thus a new sector emerged. These branded masks, which were first introduced to the market for $ 85, were designed in harmony with neckties for men, bags-shoes, or dresses for women and began to decorate the showcases.
Although the masks compatible with the clothes brought to mind the science fiction series The Handmaid’s Tale, they did not have a traumatic meaning. In this future series, the breeding women were punished for their rebellious behaviors, their mouths were sewn, and they were forced to wear masks in the same color as their clothes. In the times of the coronavirus pandemic, which is a complete substitute for science fiction movies, such masks were not worn out of necessity, but perhaps out of the desire to embellish life as if to give a message about coping with difficulties. Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova became the pioneer with the mask of the same color matching her fuchsia dress.
Designer masks are indispensable among bride and groom accessories, and cartoon or animal-illustrated masks were designed for children. Message-printed masks have now adorned the showcases of stores that produce and sell printed t-shirts. In a short time, symbolic narration began to take place on the masks. Masks with inscriptions, drawings, or photographs became a part of the protest expression or advocacy. For example, in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, on the 3rd anniversary of the Justice March of the CHP Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the deputies wore masks with the words “Justice”. The use of masks with a photograph or writing of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the opening of the Assembly caused controversy, as the mask was something that had to be used and discarded after two hours.
While the mask had to be worn on the face to be protected from the virus, the usage ways have changed over time, first the fashion to put the mask on the chin has spread with the effect of the heat. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s first masked photograph may have had an effect on the widespread use of masks on the chin.
When the curfews were lifted and shopping malls, cafeterias, and restaurants were opened, it became widespread to wear them on the wrist and arm despite the warnings of experts.
As the mask fashion spread, masks started to take place among the first gifts that came to mind. It was seen that the Edebiyatist journal gave a mask to its readers in the May-June 2020 (29th issue).
While it is stated that viruses will continue to pose a threat in the future, scientists are also working on masks to provide full protection and clean the infected air.
Making masks: Due to the scarcity of masks in the first months of the pandemic, both healthcare professionals and ordinary people had to make masks with various fabrics. The situation has become such that certain types of fabrics are being sold as “mask fabric” in cloth shops. Some even bought small sewing machines for their home to sew masks. Do-it-yourself videos showing mask-making spread everywhere. In the absence of a mask, we even made a mask out of lace.
Masked dreams: Are you aware that most dreams are masked? Going out without a mask, losing the mask, being exposed to someone without a mask… Could this be what they call masked depression?
Masked Turkish Grand National Assembly: Sessions of the deputies wearing masks during the pandemic. The deputies, with their masks off their noses, swearing and insulting each other in front of a white curtain.
It is a representative assembly of cartoon heroes. Examples include Spider-Man, Zorro, Phantom, Batman, Catwoman, and Devlet Bahçeli.

Mutation: Changes in the nucleotide (letter) sequence of genetic material in DNA or RNA in some viruses. Mutations are random events and do not occur to serve a specific purpose. We can think of these as genetic correction errors. During the copying of DNA, a mutation occurs when the nucleotide changes due to an error when inserting the nucleotides into the DNA or when the DNA is exposed to an external physical or chemical effect. It’s like pressing the wrong key on the keyboard while re-typing a sentence. Most mutations do not affect a living being, a wrong letter rarely changes the meaning of the sentence, these are called neutral mutations. Most non-neutral mutations, on the other hand, harm the living being, and only a few mutations are beneficial. Mutations are the drivers of evolution, natural selection leads to evolution by eliminating harmful mutations and accumulating beneficial ones.
Since the genetic material of viruses is very small, they are more tightly coded than other living beings. This increases the effect of mutations on viruses, and the meaning of genetic messages is more likely to change to be beneficial or harmful. Besides, if they carry single-stranded RNA instead of double-stranded DNA as genetic material like coronaviruses, it means that there is no backup of this message. For these reasons, viruses become more susceptible to mutation and therefore to evolution.

However, since it is filtered, it does not protect the other one, so mind yourselves and put on a surgical mask over it. Do not put anyone at risk.
Negative test result: The name given if the result of the test for the diagnosis of COVID-19 is not COVID-19 compliant.
It has been in our lives since the first case announced by the Ministry of Health on March 10, 10 in Turkey. This has been one of the issues mentioned in the main news bulletins every evening. The rumor has spread that sometimes patients with COVID-19 could have negative test results when the swab was taken from the wrong place. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine, who is a healthcare professional, said that although she was infected, her test result was negative. I don’t know if it is true, but she was very sure of herself.

With the return to normal: Quarantine measures have been gradually released in Turkey as well as all over the world. The process called new wave or groundswell in the world is rapidly becoming apparent. As of August 1, 2020, the case record has been set in the world. In the statement made by the chairman of the TTB, it is stated that the number of patients in Turkey has increased considerably. It is heard from doctor friends that summer seizures have started, and cases have increased. Everyone says to each other to stay home. But where? On the beach where they swim together, during street conversations without masks, in cool indoor spaces with air conditioner. However, it was announced today that around 7 million viruses were released in an indoor environment with a cough. What we see and hear is scary, we just forget it while we live. The cost? We will live and see.

Autoimmune diseases: In common, it produces germ-free inflammation, the immune system works oddly. These bodies are touchy, react to everything. Of course, those in this disease group will have different experiences. They suddenly get sick, have a fever, and each time they worry about whether they have “corona or paranoia”. Sometimes the clinical picture and blood results support it, but when you say, “let’s test you”, the CRP drops. Why did it rise? Who knows? Why did it drop? Somebody knows. “Go have a rest” until the next alarm.
Excessive immune responses in these patients are suppressed with drugs. Positive studies have been started in Canada and Italy regarding that some drugs such as colchicine may be beneficial in corona.

Cough: It’s a reflex. The reaction to cleanse the respiratory tract from enemies. Enemies can be physical, emotional, abstract and tangible. We are worried every single time due to the COVID-19, because it is one of the most basic symptoms. Especially dry cough is the most casual. It doesn’t happen that we don’t notice anyone coughing anymore. Both for ourselves and the others. Fortunately, blinking is not a symptom of the disease.
Number of deaths: The number of casualties announced by the official authorities every day during pandemic. According to some, it’s our success score. According to others, it’s the number hid by the ministry. But what is true is that it’s not the number, it’s the people, and the stories every death legate. The most painful of these stories in the times of corona are the funeral ceremonies that we could not attend. The mourning of the survivors who come to terms with the thought that the deceased spend their last moments alone. The mourning of not being able to bid farewell.
The reduction of the lives to the simple numbers. Ignoring the memories, and all the good moments. Life does not fit into numbers, think about it, brethren.

When things went “relatively” well after the third week, its effect weakened. Now, the scientists have attempted to explain to those who say, “Talk to the hand,” that things are going well because the measures are followed and that they should not relax. When the market opportunists who took advantage of the pandemic’s course being milder than feared, suppressed, they decided to loosen the measures in a wide range from shopping malls to football. So, what would scientists say? Congratulations, you guessed it: “The next 2 weeks are important.”
From now on, it is understood that a “daily new patient number” that does not exceed the capacity of the hospitals will be accepted. Life goes on anyway. Until the vaccine is produced!…

Takeaway: In lock-down restrictions, good-hearted young boys who deliver orders at midnight: “If you need, we can buy a pack of cigarette or tea. As you can’t get out.” While you were running tiredly, I’m dying inside now, I can’t get out, you’re right…
One of the important actions of our monotonous life in quarantine was to open mobile applications just like entering a giant restaurant with tables spread all over the neighborhood and choose foods that we would not dare to say “we can make this at home” from the endless lists and order them. The joy of pushing the burden of cooking aside, the secret satisfaction of being able to afford it, the comfort of eating the most beloved dishes in your own room in a way far from elegance, and perhaps most importantly, the painful pleasure of sitting on the jury seat and scoring the service, were the aspects that made it attractive to order food.
There is no doubt that there is a difference between preferring to eat at home and being obliged to do so. Sometimes, people partially open or want to open this safe harbor, where they take shelter against the epidemic, to visits from outside. They want to feel a different taste in the mouth and see different objects in the thrash. It is necessary to give consent for some burdens in the face of an attempt to have a very enjoyable day -or meal-. It is not difficult to keep the remorse that stares at us when ordering: “How will these restaurants survive; how will the couriers make money?” But there is also an issue touching people on their sore spot. Well, everything that comes from the outside risks bringing the disease we are avoiding to the house. Preparing the tip of the courier to receive the incoming package quickly like a pit-stop, transfer the package to the sink and disinfect it immediately, get rid of the last viruses by putting the food in the oven and going to bed on a full stomach wondering if you catch something: The specific rules and “processes” of a successful takeaway delivery. I guess it’s all the costs of insisting on maintaining our connection with the outside. See. See Let’s order something.
Money: The thing that we do not want to touch, we spray disinfectants on, rapidly loses value, not available very often in the wallet, orders the acceleration of normalization, and determines the forms of protection from the pandemic according to classes and possibilities. It’s the god for some. The dream of some, the despair of others.
Pandemic: As it is known, “pan” means “all”, while “demos” means “people” in Ancient Greek. I don’t know if there is an etymological relationship with Pan, the god of the countryside and shepherds, scaring everyone with his voice in ancient Greek mythology; but it connotates strongly with the word ‘panic’, derived from the God Pan… It is one of those situations where it is good to panic wisely…
Pan is the older of the two brothers and is more imperial and globalist. Pandemic, like its younger brother Epidemic, is of Greek origin and a combination of the words Pan (all) and dēmos (folk) (pandēmos). In other words, the pandemic is the name given to the outbreaks that have ceased to be regional (which is called epidemic) and affect globally and the situation created by these diseases. The term “pandemic disease” was first recorded in 1853. For a disease to be considered a pandemic, it has to cause the death of a large number of people, as well as being infectious. This Greek word, which we learned the fastest, entered our lives thanks to the COVID-19 disease originating from coronavirus. Although our relationship remained a little distant until the World Health Organization’s (WHO) statement dated March 11, 2020, it is now part of our lives.
Strange maybe, but it is one of the phrases used for Aphrodite. Some say that she is the “goddess of peace and harmony”, while others call her the seductive side of all goddesses gathered in Aphrodite. Even Plato and Pausanias use the definition of Aphrodite Pandemos to describe Aphrodite as “the goddess of lustful pleasures”.
In the period of corona epidemic (epidemic), what is confused with the word epidemic (epidemic) is actually (in a way) the name taken by epidemic diseases (epidemic… getting out of control like these brackets) that affect the whole world.
The word meaning “global epidemic”.
It is astonishing that it was adopted in a short time, like an ancient Turkish word written in the Orkhon Monuments and used for hundreds of years. Its spread among society from almost every age and segment in such a short time is a very interesting example in terms of showing the dominant attitude of politics, the power of the media, and the destructive effect of chaos.
We have the social support of 1,000 Turkish Liras of, as well as the social assistance…
Circular on pandemic hospitals: Ministry of Health’s circular dated March 20, 2020. According to the circular, hospitals with at least two specialists in the field of infection, chest, internal medicine and 3rd level adult intensive care are accepted as Pandemic Hospital.
Things got mixed up with the emergence of private hospitals receiving money from COVID-19 patients. While the bosses asked, “No other patients are coming anyway, how will we make a living?”, the patients were forced to pay thousands of Turkish Liras, also experiencing the feeling of being deceived. The mistake was corrected only on April 4, and the COVID-19 treatment was added to the list of non-charged transactions in Statement on Health Practices (SUT). The total amount of money paid to private hospitals by patients for fourteen days is still unknown today.
Pangolin: The name comes from “pengguling” which means “round” in Malay language. Scaly mammal. It is a group of insectivorous mammals with hornish-scales-covered bodies, made of keratin. They feed on ants and termites. It is widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, Indochina and Indonesia. When scared, they become round like sow bugs. It is collected from nature because of the valuable keratin scales it uses to protect itself and meat and is the most illegally traded animal species.
Although pangolines were suspected to be the intermediary species in the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to humans at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, later studies have shown that pangolin coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2 are too distant relatives to support this thesis.
Paodemia: A new word called Paodemia, which is a combination of Portuguese bread (pao) and pandemic (pandemia), was made up for the bread-making trend that we frequently encounter on social media during the pandemic. Sample sentence: “His paodemia was so extreme that there was nothing but bread pictures on his Instagram page.”

Before that “One kilo of leeks,” says Mr. Burhan, with his unique emphasis on the images that include the dialogue between the two. Then he requests a half kilo of beans and pastry “with cheese or olive”. In fact, it is a very ordinary dialogue between a citizen and a government official responsible for meeting his needs. However, these images, thought to reflect the politeness of the old generation, have been shared a lot on social media, maybe with the effect of pranks made by young people on the elderly. It is said that Kılıçkınlı, who immediately became “Uncle Burhan” for the whole country, is a nice and polite gentleman. As if to emphasize the extraordinary nature of such politeness, even the headline “retired Vienna ambassador giving an order to the police officer” was input across the entries of Ekşi Sözlük. Now, as we are surrounded by rudeness and evil words, these simple requests suddenly became the agenda. On top of that, Kılıçkınlı became famous in line with Andy Warhol’s saying that “one day everyone will be famous”. We got the news that he got sick and was hospitalized, and that he remarried to his ex-wife divorced 30 years ago. Tabloid journalism definitely needs some news materials. Thus, it is made possible to detect and study DNA. Since SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus, another step involving the process of converting RNA into DNA is needed for the PCR test to take place.
It is a sacred corona estimation method that prohibits saying “I have corona” without being positive, gives 30% negative results even if it is corona, thus providing a small number of corona cases and deaths in accordance with the health policy of the period. In this way, the deaths of many people could be presented as “natural death”, although the symptoms completely indicated corona infection. Although the result is positive in the later stages of the pandemic, it is an insignificant test in determining the total number of cases where the result is not considered positive when the person says, “I do not feel sick.”
R
RNA vaccine: It is a type of vaccine in experimental stage. Efforts are underway to develop an RNA vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It is aimed for the immune system to produce antibodies against the virus by injecting certain regions of the virus RNA into humans.
RNA virus: Viruses whose genetic material is RNA. Unlike double-stranded DNA, RNA is single-stranded, which makes possible mutations less likely to be corrected, so RNA viruses mutate and evolve faster. SARS-CoV-2 virus is an RNA virus.
Since this single-stranded virus is more unstable than DNA viruses, it has a higher risk of mutation when passing from living being to living being. They are generally more contagious than DNA viruses. HIV, SARS, influenza A virus are RNA viruses. Viruses such as hepatitis C, B, A that cause stronger diseases and can cause permanent damage to organs are DNA viruses.
R0; Virus transmission coefficient: A definition used to express how many people around “a virus spreader” infected with the virus in an environment where the virus is not known to exist before. R0 1 means that a person carrying the virus will infect another person in the same environment. Expected number of cases caused by a virus spreader. It is used in calculating the infectiousness of the virus, the risk of the pandemic, and the size of the measures to be taken.

Patience: We can both be happy, let’s be patient. We can go out after a while, let’s be patient. Things will get better after a while, let’s be patient. After a while, we will hug, kiss and cuddle each other, let’s be patient. We will not treat each other as potential corona conductor after a while, let’s be patient. We will get rid of wearing masks after a while, let’s be patient. After a while, our beloved ones will get out of intensive care, let’s be patient. After a while, the children will return to the kindergarten, the living rooms of the homes will be no longer a playground, jogging track, beach, school, restaurant, let’s be patient. After a while, the severe conflict between the husband and the wife due to being together consistently for 24 hours will come to an end, let’s be patient. Femicide? We will not be patient. We will not be silent.
Due to the pandemic, while we were washing our hands at the same time with someone, we could not stop rubbing between the fingers because those who stopped washing their hands first would look like an insensitive, ignorant and idiot. We washed a lot. We washed very well. Then we opened the door with the napkin on which we dried our hands. We held the door with our feet. The corona brought with it its own signs of courtesy. We wanted to hug and kiss whomever opens the door for us, but…
Soap: Great invention that helps water take away the dirt. Let’s divide the molecules into hydrophiles and hydrophobics. Dirt molecules do not like water, so water molecules cannot separate them from where they are. But one end of the soap molecules likes water while the other doesn’t. So when you soap your hand, the part of the soap that does not like water creates a cage around the dirt molecules and the dirt molecules get attached to this part of the soap saying “oh, I don’t like water, just like you”. But soap plays a double game, and while the part disliking water comes into contact with the dirt, it flows with the water because the outer part likes water. This way, water and soap keep your hands clean.

Virtual Market: It is a type of market where you choose the products you need by dealing with for hours on pandemic days and where the screen freezes at the payment moment or a notification stating that they do not have services for 3 days to your address. Even if you are the “consent authority” for the 4th day, it does not offer that option. In fact, the virtual market is very useful because it makes you think about your needs.
Cuddling: According to the current TDK dictionary, “wrapping your arms, hugging.” Healing action with effects ranging from stress relieving to conflict alleviation, according to popular science. According to the writer Paulo Coelho, it is a movement that is as old as humanity, means much more than the coming together of two bodies, expressing I am not afraid to be with you, I can feel myself in my home. Maybe it is humanity’s first language, even before speaking. It is an action whose magic is not known while being discovered, hugging is undated, it is like the first tamed cat or a dog. It is the beginning of the end of longing, which means that the lovers cannot do it again after they separated, and that the resentful may make peace when they do it once more. The conceptual equivalent of the longing for the spouse and friend, which has plagued the lonely by the social distance that entered our lives with COVID-19.
Not being able to hug. In the first few days, there were strange chuckles in the encounters. How difficult it was to get into the subject with a nod. Meeting without handshaking, saying goodbye without kissing… Not being able to hug in the pandemic has introduced a new concept into our language: skin hunger.

The right to be bored: It is the right indicating that we cannot have when many people have to work at risk of getting ill. For those saying “Well but reading books, watching movies, listening to music, playing games, social media chit chats are all up to a point… I’m bored to death,” I recommend “walk at home”. It’s available on YouTube. The act of marking time and pretending to walk. It is better with 2-3 people, walk freely as much as you want without social distance, without a mask, without worrying about touching the lines. If you want, you can eat sunflower seeds, blow the mantles into the air, and sweep it when you are bored.
Symbolic Mask: The mask was frequently used in symbolic expression before the coronavirus, it was the symbol of theater art. The mask, which means a fake face that is worn on the face in order not to be recognized by others, is an accessory made of painted cardboard, fabric or plastic, used in entertainment parties or on stage.
Masks, which are indispensable for masquerade balls and New Year parties in daily life, were also featured in the cinema. The protagonists using different masks have been featured in various films, such as The Man in the Iron Mask, who was supposed to live in 14th century France, was filmed many times.
The masks of the Spanish painter Salvador Dali were used as symbols of rebellion against the system in the series La Casa de Papel, which criticized capitalism. Then it spread all over the world, it became an indispensable part of the protesters, especially as it allowed to hide the face in the squares.
Actually, the use of masks in movies as a symbol of rebellion had started before; the Guy Fawkes mask was spread in V for Vendetta and it was used in Gezi Park Protests in Turkey and attracted attention.
Before that, there were Batman and Iron Man masks, but these masks were only used by children.
Although the medical masks were included in the films describing the virus scenarios before the corona, these films could not predict the variety of masks because they are not a part of daily life as they are today. The fact that the mask is among the basic needs after the corona has been emphasized by the scientists should have strengthened its place in symbolic expression. However, since the normal life has not been fully restored, the production is limited, and it is unknown how this period will reflect on art.

I couldn’t break your heart, I’ll broadcast live for you in the evening: One of the most popular phrases that emerged during the Covid pandemic. To create the impression that the broadcaster does not normally want to be popular by broadcasting live but cannot resist the requests.
Curfew: Phrase that is treated like a plague. Some opponents objected, worrying that this restriction would extend to freedoms (we wonder what is desired but cannot be done), and the administrators could not even mention this measure because the public finance did not have the power to cover the losses of the citizens during the ban.
In the end, individuals under the age of twenty (excluding those working at the age of eighteen and above) and those over the age of sixty-five (even if they have a job) were restricted, while the rest were called “curfews” and prohibited (oops, I would say limited) going out on some weekends and public holidays by making a regulation, a solution has been provided that relieves both segments of this problematic issue. Just the situation of “Entertaining country if we were not citizens”!

Social distance: It is the expression that entered our lives with the answer “I met with our President of Religious Affairs, let’s take a break from hugging and cuddling, let’s pay attention to our social distance” upon a question asked to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who returned from his abroad trip before the first patient is recorded in Turkey. The state of not approaching each other, showing differences in application due to the uncertainty about the measure of the distance, although it was corrected as “physical distance” by Prof. Dr. Melek Göregenli, which immediately has settled in the language. See 3 feet
Social distance also defines that the relationship between different segments of the society is limited due to factors such as race, language, religion, gender, income, education, ethnicity, political view, disability, physical appearance, and lifestyle and that these segments remain spatially and physically separate from each other at the same time.
It is a crypto term deliberately engraved in the mind of the world by the World Health Organization and global capital instead of physical distance. Just like the words of neighborhood pressure, the fact that everyone has started to keep saying it in a short time shows how easily social perception is guided through the media.
Insulation system deploying even people very close to each other to a distance of one meter. I knew this distance before the corona pandemic, my mother applied it to me when my wife gave birth, for my wife not to catch an infection. Of course, we laughed a lot. Yet, we couldn’t laugh much during the pandemic.
A COVID-19 measure that will almost become the subject of a “Second New” poem. Poetic about the fact that we are close to each other but also that far apart.
Social Distanced Football Matches: It is a method developed to ensure that football matches continue to be played after the corona pandemic and the industry can continue to issue money. Especially in Italy, Spain, and France, first, the matches were played without spectators and then suspended for a while when the fact that thousands of people gathered in stadiums and continued to watch the matches even after the pandemic broke out, increased the number of cases. However, when the owners of the companies that broadcast the matches and betting trusts could not find food, it was decided to play the matches again but with social distance. Accordingly, the players will try not to touch each other during the match, the player who spits on the ground will be shown a card and the player who scores will be sent a remote kiss. With the additional right to change players during matches, it is guaranteed that the teams can immediately replace the players caught virus with the healthy ones during the match. While these strict measures are taken on the fields, there is no doubt that thousands of people who will gather to watch games in cafes and restaurants will contribute to herd immunity.

T-lymphocytes: Immune system element that was never mentioned during the pandemic, except in a Chinese article. T-lymphocytes are both guerrillas of the immune system, meaning they fight against virus and cancer cells one-for-one, and are responsible for persistent immunity with the class of memory T-cells. Contrary to what is known, the strong feature of COVID-19 is that when it intrudes into the body, it makes its first attack on T-lymphocytes and destroys all T-lymphocytes, including circulating memory cells, by settling inside them. It is how quickly the bone marrow can produce new T-lymphocytes that determines whether it will settle in the organs and thus become fatal. If new T-lymphocytes can be introduced into the circulation before COVID-19 is implanted in organs, the virus can be destroyed before it settles in organs, and if T-lymphocytes are late, they did not process the virus settled in organ cells.

No Contact: It is one of the insulting statements made by a passenger waiting for the flight to Bodrum from Istanbul Airport to a ground services officer due to the delay and spread on social media after being recorded on video long before the pandemic. It is also known as “Hold on, hold on, no contact!”
After almost a year, during the pandemic, it has been used by prudent people who consider the other person as well as themselves in a mood away from the psychology of superiority that led to insult, by removing the “hold on” part at the beginning.
Contactless delivery: Leaving the purchases outside the apartment door in online shopping.
Based on the discourse “Every contact leaves a mark”, “the burden of not being able to thank face-to-face to the motor-couriers and deliverymen who deliver bags, packages on the door, for fear of every contact leaves the COVID-19 virus, leaves a mark on the hearts.” The shame in our voices during thanking behind the closed door comes from having a privileged service. Not being able to explain to every visitor that there are people over the age of 65 and taking immunosuppressive drugs is a different pressure on the heart. The contactless delivery person sometimes asks us to tell the code sent by phone, and sometimes our identity number. Numbers, screens, doors, invisible faces, and tapering voices are symbols of our contactless days.

What happened to the turquoise table?: The picture that suddenly changed on July 29 raised questions. Those who had been “cases” on July 28 became “patient” on July 29. The term number of cases per day was changed to the number of patients per day, the phrase “intubated patient” was removed, and instead the phrase “seriously ill” was used. We were enlightened overnight by the fact that “case” and “patient” are not the same. What we understand from the Minister’s statements is that not every case is positive. What we do not understand is this: Which came first, the patient or the case?
Toilet paper: The first consumer item that people, convinced of the magnitude of the danger associated with COVID-19, rushed, and attacked markets. In fact, this did not develop as an attitude peculiar to our country. The scarcity of toilet paper in London, Germany, Australia had widespread media coverage around the world since the beginning of March. We have read in the news that there are restrictions such as 1 toilet paper per customer in Europe. Diken announced that knife robbers stole 800 Turkish Lira worth of toilet paper in Hong Kong. Coffee beans were exchanged for toilet paper in Berlin, and we proudly read in a report by Sputnik that the demand for Turkish-made toilet paper has tripled in the world. As the media keeps the increasing demand for toilet paper on the agenda in the world, it is not surprising that the people from Turkey also join this spiral of concern.

This is the most interesting question that has been asked during the pandemic, and it is a basic example of citizenship misconception due to those attacking the ones who defend the right to the budget and question where the resources are transferred think that it is a genius idea to question why a professional organization that is granted funds from the budget does not produce vaccines. Although it is considered that it is the result of confusion because the Citizenship Education is provided in the military; lawyers, public administration specialists and physicians chose to give a short answer by saying “the professional organization does not produce vaccines”.

Corona on TV: The topic that everyone wants to talk about during the pandemic, whether they are an expert or not. The black box causing the concept to spoil and to lose its seriousness. When the shooting of the TV series was interrupted, we started watching heated debates. We had a hard time adapting for a few days, but we almost became addicted in the same way. To listen to experts, to choose sides, to generate sympathy and hatred, to empathize, to identify. To spectate like watching TV series, to be affected by them as much as by the series.

Distance education: Digital education model that started due to the pandemic. Practical proof of what communication science is. An educational technique that has revealed that a verbal process, where one or more people are narrators and some others listen to them constantly, does not provide communication. Still, many couldn’t interpret why it didn’t work. However, the fact that the main feature of communication is interaction or action-reaction, not speaking, was overlooked.
Moving the home comfort to education, the teacher freezing on the screen due to the weakness of the connection, the state of the mother entering the frame with a dish of tangerines in her hand.
It is the type of education that we knew best as a relevant unit of universities before the pandemic, and have become an expert of it at best, or obliged to at worst right after the administrative break given to education in mid-March 2020. Being the equivalent EBA (Education Information Network) of the National Education for primary, secondary and high schools, although the fact that the Ministry of National Education used this ready-made system in the first days of the pandemic was a pleasant surprise, the distance education via systems such as EBA, Zoom, etc. have become a soul-sucking practice for parents, but especially mothers, of course, due to the always unequal nature of the domestic division of labor. As with most of the transformations in everyday life at home, mothers, listening to the lessons with their children who learned to speak only a few years ago and naturally impossible to concentrate on a distance lesson, have experienced this transformation on their disadvantage. Universities, on the other hand, could not behave as fast as the Ministry of Education, and after being silent for a short time, they started distance education via Moodle, Zoom, Google Classroom, etc., or by using other methods specific to them. Although it has stories as many as its perpetrators, we can say that this process in general, especially in the beginning period, gave both the teacher and the students an experience similar to the experience of being caught naked at home, and it has interned the usual social practices of the classroom environment. From the point of view of a prof, I can say that a prof, who is not very keen on sitting at the table, but has the flexibility to exist as an equal image on the screen, can more easily adapt to this state of pendency, and that the university professor, stuck with the privilege of being a “prof”, fell into existential crises and suffered a hellish torture. In this period, various categories have emerged such as the student who froze his registration as a result of a right granted by YÖK at the beginning of April 2020 and got out of hole, the student became eager in distant education, the passive student that we wouldn’t notice his absence if he put his passport photo in front of the camera and the student missing after the lecture started saying “there’s a problem in my connection”. Categories are of course to be surpassed and eroded. There are also stories such as the student turning off the camera and microphone and taking shower during the lesson, the student listening to the lesson on his phone and finally telling the prof “I have to buy 1 GB internet package for each lecture. Therefore, I cannot continue to the lectures for financial reasons”, the profs defeating their students with abnormal weekly responses, hundreds of pages of readings or three hours of uninterrupted lectures maybe because of the panic, or maybe because of the nature of the distance education that sometimes touches the ego of the profs. In short, distance education has made us remember the humanitarian character of education and how much it is connected with face-to-face social interaction.

The claim that the virus originates from homosexuals: This claim was made by the President of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, in a Friday sermon. The fact that such a claim has been made in our country, where LGBTIQ+ individuals are subjected to violence every day, has brought “hate crime” discussions to the agenda.
VIP Friday Prayer: The prayer led by the President of Religious Affairs in the Millet Mosque in the Presidential Complex, with the congregation formed by the muftis in Ankara, by observing the social distance and mask measures and not repeated upon reactions. It has been claimed that the devil wandered in the space between the ranks like a striker dribbling in the space between the ranks on the date of VIP Friday Prayer, as the measures were taken to prevent the devil from blending in by standing shoulder to shoulder and closing the ranks during the prayers performed in congregation.
Virus: Virus means “poison” in Latin. They are smaller pathogenic agents than bacteria. Their structure is extremely simple. DNA or RNA that make up their genetic material and a protein envelope surrounding it are indispensable for viruses. Some viruses, such as coronaviruses, also have a lipid layer called an envelope surrounding this protein sheath. SARS-CoV-2, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2, is a coronavirus.
Contrary to the common belief, it is a creature that cannot be killed but simply ripped apart. Because viruses are not living organisms. Ultraviolet A and C and heat above sixty or seventy degrees can cause many viruses to break down, but some viruses are resistant to that too. Radiation breaks down all types of viruses, and of course human DNA.
“Virus” is its medical language equivalent. This is like “Cologne” is the equivalent of “Köln”. With the corona pandemic, we learned that the species we call “virus” are “viruses” while just asking the meaning of “pandemic”. In fact, both are the same thing. You get used to it when you see the famous infection professors in the field of medicine very often on television screens. Nevertheless, you can say “virus” to yourself. There is no harm in this. Just like calling “infection risk” as “contagion risk”.
Virus equality: In the first days when the COVID-19 virus emerged from China and started to spread around the world, the concept of “equality” also appeared on the stage again and became very popular. Rapidly circulating all over the world from Asia and Europe to America and Africa, this virus did not discriminate among the rich, poor, famous, fame-less, male and female, and countries.
Celebrities such as the famous actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, political figures such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Iranian Deputy Minister of Health İreç Herirçi, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, and coaches such as Fatih Terim could also come down with the corona. As such, it was accepted that “the virus treats all people equally”.
But equality was one of the three concepts that emerged from the famous slogan “Freedom, Equality, Brotherhood” (Liberté, égalité, fraternité) of the Great French Revolution of 1789 and became the common ideal of all humanity, and it alone did not bring prosperity to people. Without these three concepts together, it was not possible to ensure social welfare and establish a social state. In the absence of a social state, “virus equality” could not be achieved.
Although the COVID-19 virus also behaved equally in targeting everyone, it couldn’t reach some people. Because when the great danger of the virus was understood, those who had money and the opportunity locked themselves into their homes and could easily take all necessary measures to protect against the virus. However, those who had no material and moral opportunities and had to work continued to live in danger of getting sick.
Hacı Sabancı’s answer, a business person who shared a photograph taken while exercising during the pandemic days, “Calm down, champion, I’m home” to a follower who thought he was out despite the pandemic, has become the symbol of “there is no equality in protection from the virus”. It has become clearer that the virus behaves equally in targeting everyone, but that there is no equality in protection from the virus. The disease gradually spread to masses that could not be prevented from the disease.
As homeless people in the USA and people in nursing homes in Europe died, the virus chided humanity for its inequality contrary to what was first thought. “Virus equality” was forgotten as a dream of the first days of the pandemic.
The genetic sequence of the virus: It is the process of determining the sequence of the nucleotides (genetic letters) of the DNA or RNA chain, which is the genetic material of the virus.
Virus visual: The appearance of the virus on television screens in different colors. It is mostly seen in pink, purple, reddish-orange, and green. Pink and purple ones are feminine. Pink ones are obedient and docile. It accepts the antivirus drugs given to it without question. It says “yes” to those who dominate at the cost of its life. The purple ones question and resist. After all, even if they die, they resist and die. They don’t give in easily. Reddish oranges are masculine. They fight, the patient is intubated (see the article intubated), taken into the intensive care unit. Sometimes they are defeated, but usually, they win the war. Both the feminine and masculine species have a crown on their heads. Unlike their small size, this crown gives them strength and power. To tell the truth, this virus can rule, the ones that originated in England are noble. There, they found the statesmen and Prince Charles because the blood told. The green ones are so evil that I don’t want to mention them. If they take over the body, the patient is gathered to his fathers. Those affected by this type of virus should go to exorcists. However, it is necessary to ask whether the exorcist has had the corona test done. Women who are masters of crochet, and do not know all these dangers, make a model from the coronavirus and make coasters, key chains, and pincushions (see article corona kitch). Bat: This is a bird-like mammal species whose soup is said to be quite tasty in China, where anything can be eaten, and is accused of spreading corona to humans.
The general name of mammals that are members of the Chiropteran team. They are common all over the world except on the poles. It is literally the only group of mammals capable of flying. They are mostly nocturnal. Although most feed on insects or fruit, there are also species that feed on fish, mammals, blood, or pollen. Most of them have the ability to echolocate or navigate by sound. In many parts of the world, bats, especially fruit bats, are hunted and eaten by humans. Bat meat is consumed in West and Central Africa, Madagascar, East Asia, and Oceania. Bats are the only mammals that live in some Oceania islands. For some groups of people, it is one of the most accessible protein sources. According to a study conducted in Madagascar, childhood anemia could be expected to increase by 29% if the meat of wild animals, including bats, was excluded from the diet of the local population.
Bats host many viruses and pathogens, their immune systems have evolved to protect them from these viruses, but if they come into contact with other animals, there is a risk of these viruses passing on them and causing pandemics.
SARS-CoV-2 is also very likely to be a virus transmitted from bats to humans. Wuhan Institute of Virology has shown that the genome of a coronavirus isolated from Rhinolophus affinis, a Rhinolophus, matched 96% with the SARS-CoV-2 genome. However, this four percent difference corresponds to fifty-year virus evolution. This reinforces the thesis that the transmission of the virus between bats and humans is mediated by another species. However, what actually this intermediary type is yet to be determined.
Aid campaigns: HOW SHALL WE DEFINE THIS ARTICLE?
Aid bans: A ban that everyone misinterpreted during the pandemic. The incident that the government banned donation campaigns organized by municipalities to help those affected by the pandemic and blocked donation accounts. Everyone thought that this incident was to prevent the government from CHP municipalities. Yes, this played a role, but this was not the main goal. The main goal was to prevent money from escaping from the Presidential donation campaign. Despite this, the Presidential campaign could only raise two billion TL.
Mourning: For each death on the daily corona chart. For my friend’s grief, who was unable to go to his father’s funeral ceremony, at not being able to bid farewell to him. For our acquaintances abroad who have been following the hospitalization of their infected parents in the nursing home and afterward with anxiety, who are depressed because they cannot share their parents’ loneliness because their hearts sink into their boots, who can’t even come to the burial procedures. For the burden of thinking about dying alone, being alone while dying, for the rude behaviors of those who spend the isolation process comfortably at home like a detox holiday, to the workers at their services. For workers who eat in crowded cafeterias, are infected one after another, and continue to work desperately, for poor people with a mentality that can say “what should I do? Are they poor because of me?” in this unequal world. For every woman who is subjected to male violence at home due to isolation, whom we cannot help, and for every living being that is raped and murdered.

Pranks on the elderly people: HOW SHALL WE DEFINE THIS ARTICLE?
The new normal: The old normal without a mask.
The concept that expresses our way of life until the day we get rid of the virus and that we have come off badly. Distancing, inequality becoming permanent.
An effort to return life to the old days in a strange way. So, what was normal? Ortaçgil says: “Someone shall tell me instantly what the normal is, I am very bored already”.
It’s the concept that we hear and use a lot in our conversations during the pandemic while there is no consensus about the “normal”, which is requested to be told instantly by Bülent Ortaçgil in his song “Normal” and is getting more complicated by the growing contradictions in the society.
The answer to the question “What is this new normal” can turn into a door to a “healthy and safe life for everyone” if the following issues are not passed over: the change of market-oriented policies, whose negative reflections in health care are more evident during the pandemic, the state of action with the awareness that social insecurity will constantly gripe the soul of people as long as a social structure where basic needs can be provided equally at all times and for all.
Now, there is no telling immoral jokes at the table with drinks and hors-d’oeuvres. We will have trouble reaching our lover’s hand in the cafes. Karakucak wrestling style hugs are over. We will come into line one and a half meters away from each other at the door of the shopping mall toilet and wait for our time to swim at the holiday village.
There are risks such as paying the bill of next table or finding yourself in the bank while you think you were waiting in the bread line until you get used to it, but at least for a while… Sorry. No. Nothing good.
Place signs: The warning that entered our lives with the warning “do not cross the red line”, which was first seen in pharmacies. With these signs, waiting places, sitting places, signs in shops showing which way to go, distances between tables in restaurants and cafes started to appear in our daily life as a new life guide. Will we get used to it? Is there any other solution?!
People between the ages of twenty and sixty-five: The crowd, who are scared half to death every day by saying “have I got sick?” because they go out, rather than feeling happy. The group that was “mocked” as the “age group sacrificed to the corona” and forced to work closely even during the pandemic because the special lock-down provided to children and people over the age of sixty-five was never imposed.
20-Second Rule: It is one of the most important ways of preventing the disease. It is necessary to wash the hands for a long time. At least for 20 seconds. Prof. Dr. Alpay Azap stated that we had to wash our hands while singing the song “happy birthday” twice. He said this to the children, but we are all children after all. So why 20 seconds? Why exactly 20?
If you do not wipe your ass and wash it with your hand, either wash it for twenty seconds or two hundred seconds, there will still be bacteria and sh.t left between your toenails. There used to be the five-second rule where we apply on something that fell down the ground. Those were the days!
Sadness Felt Behind the Deceased: A type of feeling that is experienced in the general society as “It would be a shame if we do not feel sad”.
Intensive care occupancy rate: If you were mildly ill during the corona pandemic, you were being sent home. If you were moderately ill, you were being observed at the hospital, if your condition worsened, you were taken to the intensive care unit. Intensive care meant “candidate to die”, so the intensive care occupancy rate demonstrated the capacity of that country. The country was considered successful in treatment if it was under-occupied, and unsuccessful if it was over-occupied.
The misleading percentage is given by the Ministry of Health of the period by taking into account the beds allocated for non-COVID-19 health problems, i.e., all intensive care beds in the country, although the intensive care beds allocated for COVID-19 in the health system are full.
Travel restriction: The restriction imposed to prevent micro-droplets from falling on the other person in very close conversations starting with the question sentence “Where are you from, my fellow” and because of not controlling when the operating air conditioners were last cleaned.
Evacuation of dormitories: HOW SHALL WE DEFINE THIS ARTICLE?
184 Hotline: It was established supposedly to help the public in health-related affairs but was used to complain about healthcare professionals. This number is called for all kinds of complaints from “He does not prescribe to my mother in hometown”, “She went sour” and “He did not look at my face” to “He said this is not urgent”, “She had my gum removed to examine my throat” and “He hurt while examining”, and the institution would ask the healthcare professional for defense.
As of March 14, the number has been the COVID-19 hotline. COVID-19 removed the earplug that blocked the objections made by TTB for years to “Remove this system, employees are harassed and targeted”. We are not going to express our gratitude.
The pandemic of the Century: In the statement made by the WHO on August 1, 2020, it was announced that the effects of the pandemic could last 10 years. The pandemic continues, today the highest case record was broken in the world. We have experienced the pandemic of the century.
Walking: The act of walking, which means “to move forward step by step, to go” according to its first meaning in the current TDK dictionary, is perhaps one of the most unique movements that made human feet with two animals and established today’s civilization. Frédéric Gros, in his book A Philosophy of Walking, says that walking is actually regarding the class as everything else. For example, according to him, walking is the within the means of the poor. Oruç Aruoba puts the class aside in his book The Walking and says: “The fundamental determinant for any new road is to walk to the end of an old one.” It is important to walk. Ultimately, according to its slang meaning, it might be called “the process of trying to lure someone.” During the pandemic, the concept has remained in suspense, according to both the TDK dictionary and its slang meaning. Even walking in parks was banned by governments, and people’s efforts to “lure” have sneaked into similar restrictions. By necessity. Unfinished flirtations may be longed for, maybe walked away. We downloaded matchmaking apps like Tinder, “lured toward” someone. We did anyway, but it was prohibited to walk during this period. The person who has a dog walked the dog, we walked to the bakery to buy bread during the curfew. People over the age of 65 walked with a companion after days. We walk through Instagram by saying “I’m going to follow him/her” or liking something. Walking was somehow prohibited, it was forbidden to walk, somehow, we lured.
Z
Generation Z: It is a term used to describe those born in 2000 and later. During the pandemic, it came to the forefront as the age group that suffered the most from prohibitions and restrictions, along with the age group over 65, and it was widely discussed as the exact subjects of online school life, curfew, and exams such as LGS and YGS. On the other hand, although they seem to be the group least affected by COVID-19 in Europe and America during the pandemic, they have been on the agenda in our country because they constitute a certain part of the people working informally or minimum wage, and unfortunately, has been defined as the group deemed at risk, perhaps the most affected by the pandemic. In addition to all these, the generation, which is seen as a serious voting potential for the next elections, as they represent around seven million people in our country, unfortunately, is angry with their elders who cannot understand them “well” enough. For this generation born into technology, technology is not something learned, but a kind of limb. Social media, many applications, and the internet are more than just a medium where they express themselves freely and with their own jargon. It is a kind of lifestyle. It is the red line of Generation Z that all of these are restricted by parents and statesmen. We think it would not be wrong to summarize the philosophy of life as hasta la vista baby.
Turmeric: A immune system boosting panacea recommended by oncologists to all cancer patients, that doesn’t work without mixing with black pepper. The better one is resveratrol, but not many people know.
The Governor of Zonguldak: The small leg of the power who tries to misdirect people by increasing the burden of the healthcare professionals by allowing unfiltered thermal power plants in the region.
He became famous with his saying, “We protected the healthcare professionals in the hospital, but they could not protect themselves at home.” He was lynched on social media without thinking “Why did this man say something like this?” However, with this statement, the governor managed to announce to the public that one out of every four patients in the city is a healthcare professional. What would he do? It means that only in this way he has been able to break the “very transparent” coronavirus policy, in which no information is shared. Thank you, governor!
Zoom: Visual communication-relationship system that eliminates the need for physical contact, as in Isaac Asimov’s book Solaria. The people of the Planet Solaria in the book were using such a system because they were disgusted with physical contact, and they were communicating with a moving hologram, a technology superior to Zoom software.
Family meetings over Zoom: Meetings where everyone connects, turns on their microphones and cameras and greets, and then says goodbye in turn for the remaining 6 minutes. The elderly in the family over 80 are included in the conversation by the first generation grandchildren by holding the WhatsApp screen to the Zoom camera. Zoom never skips the scuffle of couples who think no one hears them. The screen and green frame are theirs. Zoom is turned off, now it is time for phones. You’re fine, you’re ill, what did you say? Why wasn’t your daughter at the meeting? Why didn’t the cousin ever talk? Why can’t I see you all? At least put on lipstick, you were like a ghost.
Zoom meetings: The method of meeting and lecturing in new media. The rush regarding what will appear in the background, maybe the library? Or pickles? The problem of the ethnography of the place.
